So who has a set of registration papers for a RHD drive TR7 [}:)]

Would give you a cheap TR7, I know it might be illegal but that's what these scrappage schemes are asking for ....

Can't remove the chassis from premises. You have to be an idiot before you can have a high level government job.

Some university students did a study on how far you would have to drive a Mini before you made up for manufacturing carbon foot print as compared to driving a classic Mini. It was 178,000 miles and they weren't sure they got all of the manufacturing involved. Factor in those cars that never reach 178,000 miles due to crashes or what ever and the other cars would have to make up and the answer is: probably never.

Nice idea, but:

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Century Gothic, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">YOU HAVE ONE FULL WORKING DAY, TO REMOVE WHATEVER YOU WANT FROM THE VEHICLE, <b>EXCEPT THE CHASSIS AND SHELL, WHICH MUST REMAIN HERE TO BE DISPOSED OF</b> - NO EXCEPTIONS SO PLEASE DO NOT ASK.<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">

So you can't take the whole car, it seems. It's going to be scrapped, whatever happens.[B)]

It's a real shame to see this happening, but we all knew this would happen - £2k for an average condition standard '7? That's a pretty good price really. As long as you don't care what happens to the car.

:EDIT:

Spyder, do you have a link anywhere for that data on the mini? I'd like to see that (and more importantly, show it to some people - I do know some people that think the scrappage scheme is good for the environment [V] )

Sorry, just saw this piece of information [:I]
Which immediately renders the whole car worthless i.m.h.o. as you can get complete TR7's with paperwork for that kind money if you look around.

Agree that the whole scrappage scheme's are a complete waste of good cars and raw materials. So actually pretty bad for the environment.

That is sad to see [:(]

The car is just about 25 miles from me. The starting bid is far too high or else I might be interested in parts from it, seeing as it is going to be crushed anyway.

This is where a Wedge Preservation Society would help. A couple of dudes with spanners would rush in, sirens blazing, strip the car & take the parts back to their secret lair where they are all categorised & stowed for the future. The parts would be self-funding but the labour would be for the love of the car.

Storage would be a cost too but where there's a will there's a way.

I don't have a link. If I recall right it was a news item on Yahoo.ca sometime before July this year.

I just don't get these schemes. We had the cash for clunkers over here. Seems to me that normal wear & tear and accidents takes plenty of everyday vehicles off the road. Check out the salvage auctions some time. They don't seem to be short on smashed up vehicles to sell. Why do governments think it's a great idea to spend money to accelerate the process? Sorry, just don't get it.

One of my favourite cars.
Last week's issue of Classic Car Weekly reported another scrappage victim: Rover 3500S (the rare manual vesion) in exellent/mint condition a car that could be driven out and shown straight away.
Apparently the owner chopped it in for a Smartcar. Madness [:(!].

In their press statement, the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and traders) stated that ONE in five cars bought under the scheme (20%)were either made in Britain or had a British made engine. Even if totally true, this figure means that FOUR out of five cars (80%) actually had NO significant British manufactured content. Very strange indeed for a scheme trumpeted as 'essential help for the British motor industry'. The main beneficiaries of the scrappage scheme have been overseas, especially Far-Eastern manufacturers like Hyundai and Kia [V].

O.K. Rant over [:D].

The 'scrappage' car can seemingly be taken to a Museum and put on display - but must never be used on the road again. But in two years time........ perhaps with a different reg number .......
The whole thing is sad - the folks doing the trading in of the old car actually believe they are getting a 'bargain' - but if they were to look around, without the old car trade-in, they can usually do even better!
And now - here in UK - car prices are said to be on the up and up, because of a shortage in the Market place ! Looking at the huge stockpile of brand new cars (well - they were 'new' 6 months ago!) round the back of some of the local car sales places - I think someone is telling Porkies!

bmcecosse, your gonna love this......
Yes,they can be taken to a Museum and put on display [:)]. However [:(]--(are you ready for this?) because a certificate of destruction has been issued the 'car' is not now legally a car at all, it has become 'hazardous waste' and before it can be transported to it's new home it has to be drained of all fluids, and all hazardous waste transportation paperwork completed [:0].
Has the World gone mad [?]

I just had a terrible nightmare - I imagined we had a Labour government with Gordon Brown and Peter Mandelson running the country!

But seriously, I've put Practical Classics onto this one so it should at least feature in their news section of the next issue.
