<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="blue">My FHC is (I believe) a 1977 model - I'm awaiting the V5 back from DVLA to confirm this. My question here is: does this early type model need rear fogs by law?

If so, I'd like to gauge opinion. The car has what I believe is a Viper bodykit (I didn't fit it but reckon it looks the business). From the back it looks like this:




but there is no natural place to locate any fogs. I was thinking of trying to locate them either next to either side of the number plate or under the bodykit. Both would spoil the aesthetics and look pants, but if the law is the law then they gotta go smewhere. Another option is to adapt one of the reverse lights.

Does anybody have any thoughts or pictures they'd care to share with me because I'd be very interested.

I've never seen them as standard on the pre common underbody cars myself, but I wouldn't want to drive without rear fog lights anyway.

People seem to have a hard enough job recognising our lights anyway, let alone in the fog. Adapting a reversing light sounds like a cool way of keeping the rear silhouette unchanged.

Strictly speaking, the regulations require a 100mm separation between the closest illuminated edge of the rear fog light and the <b>brake</b> light. Also, the fog light would have to be e-marked as a fog light. so it's a bit of a double whammy. Having said that, some forum members have got their cars through an MoT test with such a mod, so the risk is entirely up to you.

Have a look at Paul W's car he has a viper body kit and the rear fog lights,I think they are Land Rover Discovery lights,set into the bumper and it looks really good.

I will probably have to cut a hole out of the body kit for my exhaust, and reckon a plate like yours would do two great jobs in one - look superb AND hide the mess I'll probably leave behind. Are they made from stainless steel, chrome plated, polished ally or what?

Hi,
Here is what I did. I fitted a red lense behind the clear reversing lamp lense, a double filament holder from a spitty mk4 is used for brake/stop lamp on the outside red & a single filament (original fitment) in the inside red. The stop light is on the outside red this gives some seperation between the stop lamp and the fog lamp.
No problems with the MOT ether.

The need for a fog light on a 1977 car is not a legal requirement.Any part not fitted from the factory or not required by the laws in place at time of vehicle prouduction does not have to be there however if you do fit a fog lamp it has to function with a warning lamp in the car to show it's status and all parts need to work to pass an MOT.I got into a arguement with a MOT station years ago when they failed my 1977 Ford Capri MK2 for non working foglamp.The MK2 has no fog lamps from the factory or as your car any place for them.The MK3 has them built into the rear lamps as the law required it by the prouduction of the MK3.Also pre 1973 landrover owners I know have had similer problems with seatbelts.Thier cars don't have any!!!

I can get lights, but not the sort I'm after! That'll teach me to be picky. Can anybody point me in the right direction - I DO like Odd's lights.
