<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="blue">Now I have electricity (all 12V DC of it) running through my cables, I notice that 3 of the 4 clocks I have for the dashboard fail to function, and the fourth is "sporadic".

Are the clocks a known problem area or will they be kick-started when they've had a good dose of juice going into them? The sad thing for me is that the one that works is the grubbiest I own - typically!

They might benefit from a bit of a cleanup and a light oiling, but they are fairly useless to be honest. The best I ever had out of mine was about two weeks uninterrupted use, and even then it was losing about five minutes a day.
This is why a lot of people junk them in favour of fitting oil pressure gauges.

My clock always works even after the car had been stored for seven years. There is a pendulum mechanism apparently that can get stuck on start up. That happened to me once when I had battery disconnected for service work. When I disconnected battery again and reconnected it worked again. Only happened the once. It is a few minutes fast every month or so.

If I were you I would work on putting an oil pressure gauge in there instead. You can modify the module to take a TR4 oil pressure gauge which looks like it should have always been there.

I have come across the same problem too recently, my clock has stopped working after 5 years (I know of). I was thinking of of taking it out and cleaning it up or even putting the oil pressure gauge in as it does look good.

I have also been contemplating the oil gauge option. I'm afraid of it becoming a source of worry though. I had a motorhome that I installed a Stewart Warner Temperature gauge in. It tended to run warm no matter the modifications to the cooling system which were substancial $$$$. I spent a lot of driving time glancing at that gauge.[:(]

A temp guage needs to be calibrated for the sender otherwise a high reading on the guage may just be a normal temperature. It is useful to use a thermo gun to get accurate readings from critical points on the engine (particularly where the sender is, obviously) & get definitive temp readings to compare with the needle position on the guage.

Bu I have the same issue with my oil pressure gauge Underdog. It is nothing but a source of worry. Despite the fact it says everything is OK I keep waiting for it to tell me the engine is about to die.

well, the clocks are easy to repair / modify and will keep good time when done. something else must be wrong with my car, the clock works, keeps good time and the fuel gauge shows full when full and empty when, well you know...............

I can vouch for the repair mentioned above. My clock stopped working and I assumed it was not possible to repair. I got the bits from Greg by post, fitted them as instructed and the clock has now been working for about 3 months. Well worth the effort.

mine works fine after all this time. But my 7 is pretty new. 1981.
