Just thought people might like to see the latest improvements to my TR7, including new wheel arches (made of steel not filler!) roll over bar (thanks to Robsport for these) and MGF wheels (£40 off e-bay).

Only disappointment is that the hood is now rather difficult to put down due to the roll over bar. There seems no place to put the side windows I have to fold them inwards. Hood bag of course wont fit and I am getting it altered. It never did fit very well, seems slightly too small, I could never get all the poppers done up.

Looks like an Aley roll bar, my hood goes over OK although it is very tight on the back window when up, means the zip out window can't be used. There is some adjustment on the hood mountings behind the doors, try raising the whole frame. With regard to folding the hood, I thought they all went by folding the side window flaps over after dropping the roof and pulling out across the boot, then fold forwards under the bar. The hood bag side poppers can be tight, easier when it is warm and sunny. I have noticed that my hood seems to sit higher than some when folded as the front rail does not drop right into the well, maybe because it is set higher (see sig photo). It makes the bag a bit tighter but it does go on.

Vinyl shrinks with age so unless it's new it will be tight. I can just get my hood up when it's warm but good luck if it gets too cool. I don't use my hood bag because it's so tight. I think I'll have to modify it by repositioning poppers and putting an extension on the inside lower poppers.

As per F1 Spyder, fixing up the hood on a cool evening after a warm afternoon can be very interesting!! When my 7 was my everyday car and parked outside, neighbours used to enjoy the ritual of me pulling and leaning on the ragtop's header rail to make it engage with the windscreen surround. As soon as one of the twistlocks engaged I knew I was there. A bit of tugging at the quarterlights afterwards and I was done. Now it goes back in the garage under a dust sheet with the hood still down.

Fast forward to the modern day and when my wife had an MX5, I could have the non electric hood up and locked down in 10 seconds, without getting out of the car. Lean back, lift up the hood and engage the extending catches. Simples.
