Hi guys, can anyone help. Now i,ve got my TR8, i,m looking to uprate the alloys ! Thing is , i want to go for 16" or even 17" on low profile tyres, but not sure what fits, and what does,nt.If anyone knows of a site that has alloys to fit my car ( not minilites ) i will be forever in your debt. The wheels on mine at present are genuine 13" minilites in gold. If i can sell mine on flea bay or elsewhere what sort of price should i ask ? The tyres are 6mm all around . Please help . A local wheel agent told me they can do any PCD on request for any of their wheels. Hopefully you can find somone who can do the same cos I don't think you'll find anything stock bigger than 15" with the TR7 stud pattern. I've found that 205/50s on 15" rims is as big as you want to go but if you want low-profile tyres then mathematically you could go to a 205/25 on a 17".

I have no scientific data to suport but I'd be reluctant to go bigger than 15". The bolt circle is really small and the size of the tiny frt hub bearings is downright scary. I read somewhere that the Tire Rack doesn't even reccomend 15" on anything less than 4X 100mm PCD

I would tend to agree with you Underdog, but if the diameter of the tyre is the same does it matter what size the rim is? The weight will be about the same - maybe.

Surely if so many people are fitting the MGF 15" alloys to their TR's why can't the 17" alloys that the MGF people are now fitting be fitted to a TR7 ? obviously the profile will have to come down quite a bit. Maybe there isn't a low enough profile to fit ?

What tyre profile to use depends on your usage. Don't forget that
our cars are a 70s device. They were designed long before the
current fashion of ultra low profile tyres was even thought of, let
alone fitted to cars.

If your 8s suspension is any where even near stock, it will perform
much better, in average conditions, with a reasonable large bag in
the tyre.

My 8, with 205 55 15s is very good, on a billiard table, or at least
very good road. They have improved the handling quite a bit. On
anything with a bit less than an a good surface my 7 FHC with
185 70 13s is much more sure footed, & once the road gets a bit
wavey, with a few patches, the 7 is actually qiucker.

The 7 will absorb quite a bit of poor surface, before it's composure
starts to get ruffled, & in fact it's an absolute ball on gravel.
Some of this is, I'm sure, due to the FHC stiffer body.

I have not driven a 7 with 17s, with ultra low profile tyres, but I
doubt I'd want to, in my country area, with it's less than great
roads.

If your are talking about an 8, DHC, I doubt the body is stiff
enough to take any advantage of low profile tyres, unless you do
qiute a bit of stiffening, with some form of roll cage. With 280
BHP, & the 15s, I have exceeded the capacity of the DHC body to
absorb punishment.
