Air Compressor Question

I was wondering how many of you folks have painted your own car. I want to get an air compressor soon and I have found a company that sells 100% US Made heavy duty compressors for a reasonable price. What size will I need? This will be used for other duties as well (sand blasting, etc...) Thanks all.

I have a 80gal 2 stage 5 hp single phase for my shop. I would consider it the minumum. Not sure the CFM rating...I would have to look that up. Does fine for everything but sandblasting with a pressure pot keeps it running constantly. Not so bad with the blast cabinet. I rent a diesel comercial rig if I'm doing a whole tub or a lot of stuff outdoors. Figure it's cheaper than burning up mine plus it's faster because it uses a larger tip.

I bought a Eagle three head compressor 220 volt 18.5 cfm that was new from a construction company that went bankrupt for $800, they usually go for about $1,300.

They use american parts as opposed to Iron Horse which use Chinese parts and are about $200 cheaper.

Probably the minimum you want to go with for sandblasting unless you're talking small parts in cabinet. It requires more juice than painting.

Cool here is who I'm buying from....http://www.eatoncompressor.com/page/page/504747.htm My future father in law lives down the road from them in SE Ohio and says they are fantastic. So I have got to figure out which on I need and how much it is to ship.

First decide what tools/gear you are going to use and find out what air capacity they need.
With that it should be pretty easy to select th eproper compressor
