Why doesn't this look the same as on my car?

This is a photo of Custom Cages MSA certified TR7 multi-point roll cage.

I believe that this is taken from the trunk/boot, pointing toward the left rear upper mount for the shock/damper -

This does not look like the same area on my 1976 US-spec FHC. Is this something that was done differently on the later cars or RHD cars or rally cars?

It looks like it has been modified before. The plate which is level at the shock opening is standard but the gap below that is not, because the fuel tank is there. Maybe the cut away some metal to create a gap for an internal fuel tank.

****TOP SECRET****
The area where the gas tank would normally mount from the underside was lowered for an "L" shapped gas tank.
This is a shot of the original early OOM Rally TR7 with a in boot vertical tank.

Area removed for the bigger tank

New metal welded in for the new tank

All together and looking good!

I hope this helps. You will also notice the rear main hoop diagonals do not attach to the shock mount/tower but just ahead of it to the frame rail. Thanks Bert for the pictures!
