Hi John,
There loss and our gain!!!
I like to bet a few of the Registar own your excellent DVD (s). Fortunatley not all there members are so narrow minded, there has been quite a discussion in the Registar Mag over a couple of months regarding this type of behaviour and most people who have voiced an opion on the TR7 it has been positive, maybe the gentleman corncered was jealous of the far SUPERIOR stand the lads and lasses at the TRDC put on!! [?]
Cheers John
P.S. I am a member of the Registar but find the TRDC far better.

Much of this discussion are foreign to me as all the car clubs I know of here are by volunteers and are non profit societies. Yes there is some resistance to the TR7 in the muti make (British) club I belong to but less and less where a few years ago there were no TR7/8's to now where there are nine or more I can think of off hand (out of 108 members in local chapter) including the current President's. The good natured rivalry between MG and Triumph is more prevalent than any look down the nose at the TR7.

The TR Register meet at Malvern made me realise the disdain at the 7 generally (tho they were happy to see the Premium in the ring). At the clubhouse at night the 7 was a bit of a joke. The TRDC might have to cater just for 7's to protect this poor "outcast" of the TR family...Deb x

That's largely what lead to the establishment of the TRDC Deb!

Deb, I think many of us have had those kind of adverse reactions to our 7s from owners of earlier Triumphs.

A couple of years ago I took my car to a local meet of a well known Triumph club, at a pub. I had not been before. I parked up amongst assorted Spitfires, early Trs, GT6s, Heralds, etc.

I got out of the car & some Spitfire owner stared at me, then my car & said "What are you going to do with that, wedge a door open or something else useful?" Then he walked off.

I didn't go again.

Hard choice there[:(!]

1. Go over and wedge my foot up his ar5e
or
2. Go over and have a 5hite on the drivers seat[:D]

But more likely to give him some verbal abuse and then
gleska kiss[;)]

On a sunny evening last summer I drove to a golf club in the Vale of Glamorgan for a TR Register meet. On the drive there I had a few waves and flashings of lights from the older TR's. Great, I thought it would be an interesting night.
Pulled up into the car park looking for somewhere to park, plenty of spaces by their TR4s,5s and 6s, but do you think they would step out of the way so I could park with the group. No Sir. Had to park away from them.
While walking around and showing an intrest in these older TRs I was made to feel that I shoudn't be there. I left after 10 minutes.
Have not been since.

Going by the last replies the TR7, TR7V8 & TR8, will always be a problem to these type of people and their oppinions will keep these car at lower prices, even after 28 years from end of production.

This might be because they want to steer the unknown purchaser towards their higher priced car's, which they are flogging off or they are just snobs maybe.

I have to say that I've never come up against many jibes at TR Register events directed towards my wedges, maybe because im too loud revving and tyre screeching and they just get drowned out [:D]

Now being young...... thats a different story but I dont care, I know youth a something to enjoy to the max while its still with you [;)]

We do not seem to have so much of this cr4p in Oz, but if we did, I
could sneer at the side screen brigade, from a great height. You
see, I rejected their choice of car, back in the day.

In early 1961 I orded a new Morgan +4. I chose the Morgan despite
the hassle of ordering X UK, rather than out of an Oz showroom. The
plus + came with the TR3 1991cc engine.

I rejected the following;
Frog eye Sprite, gutless & ugly.
TR3, Too ugly for me.
MG A, Nice, but a bit short of go.
Austin Healey, Nice car, but too heavy for my uses.
E type Jag, A bit too much money
XK 140 Jag, [2Nd hand] Nice, but too heavy.

The TR4 came out, in Oz, after I had been driving, & racing the
Morgan for about 9 months. This was a handsome car, I liked, but by
then, nothing could make me own another of those tractor engines,
unless it was in a tractor.

The 5s, & 6s might be nice cars, they look good, but I have never
driven them, & have no experience of their engines, so really don't
know.
