damn shame to hear your leaving the tr7 ownership group, but hey its supposed to be a hobby and if it starts getting to you then it loses its edge, had the same when i had a ford probe. lovely drive and to sit it but absolutely crap, engines smoked on them they are just fit for scrap as engine rebuilds were more than the car.....

your choice of the 3 replacements, z3, expensive to fix and have no boot, mr2 not bad but try to go for the t top version, personal choice would be the mx5, son has one, an l plate, which you may still be able to get modern classic insurance on, and as for nothing to do to them, they still need fettling, early ones with the pop up headlights i prefer the look of, and go for an 1800 not 1600.

they are a little cramped but hold the road well and are a fun drive, watch for sticking break calipers on them, and upgrades..... plenty of add on bits depending on the depth of your wallet/purse, but get the moss catalogue for a fairly comprehensive spares list, including a supercharger.....

and at the end of the day keep dropping in, be nice to hear what you end up with...

Steph, sorry to hear, that you have decided to sell but if you have made youre mind up then i respect that, i was at some point considering an MR2 myself, still might at some stage get one, always have liked them, and you have the good old Jap reliabilty, do keep us posted to what you decide

dont laugh but the mgf is a great car my missus has one drives great goes well seem pretty reliable in 5 years, It did have a head gasket go not the expensive to fix but that against purchase price and running costs makes it a winner in my book and its british, Hey and i guess as so many people fit the mgf wheels on to the TR it would work the other way you could put your TR7 rims on the MGF cooooool [8D]

yeah mgfs are not bad either ...... once the head gaskets done, its an absolute pain to change as there is so little room, and you get the pleasure with that too of not being liked by the mg brigade like we are with the tr brigade...[:p]

what was the limited edition mgf they did with all the carbon fibre panels etc?, they showed one on the mark evans series when he restored an old mgb convertible......

very good, the thing is the head gasket was such a problem that a lots of garages have done loads of them and as such can do them with their eyes closed and usually not to expensive, and trust me my missus since having it done a few years ago has become very vigilant allways checking her fluids and levels taught her a bit of respect for cars. Its like anything maintain and treat well they should proof years and years of happy service

Id have a Rover Cabriolet, what am i saying i already have one, hence why Birmingham you are so right bout the head gasket, treat it right and it can go for miles.

Hi Steph,
Sorry to hear about you getting rid of your 7, i hope who ever buys it puts it on the road, you could always advertise it at Stoneleigh IF it will make it there!
As far as MGF (K Series engines in general) i was a Rover Master Tech and a MGF specialist, the failure were a lot down to the plastic locating dowls that were used to locate the head later and replacement gaskets used steel dowels which improved things alot. Water leaks on MGF seals are terrible over the doors, the owners manual even stated at one time they will leak!!
