To be honest, it is not easy to fully appreciate the 'fit' from the single photo so I will reserve judgement. The SD1 instrument panel in itself is nicer than the standard TR7 but does it match the rest of the dashboard or even the rest of the interior? I suspect you'd have to sit in the car for a while to know for sure.

If pushed I think I'd set foot down on the "git" side of the fence especially since all the effort that went into fitting the new dash hasn't made the car one iota faster. [:)]

Hiya.

Well I quite like it!

Don't think I could be bothered to do it, but it makes the thing more individual.

I remember the 'bloke up the road' getting a new SD1 in the 70s when I was 10 ish. I distinctly remember looking at the dash and thinking it looked very furutistic.

So, on reflection, maybe this is the dash that would have suited the TR7s quirky futuristic (for the 70s) looks better at the time?

Wow - wouldn't the TR6 guys really have hated it......even more!

As you say though, you would have to reserve real judgement until you saw it in the flesh (plastic), to see the quality and neatness of the overall finish.

Something different going on under the radio too.

Yes its a lovely car that - one of Mark Grinnall Ramestein Bodied cars and even has a Grinnall VIN plate.

It used to be owned by a lady called Lorraine Petersen who was involved with the Birmingham Group of the TR Register and I often used to see it around at shows as a kid and was the first time I can remember being aware of what a Grinnall was.

Was sold for a huge sum of money some time ago, I think Phil Horlsey knows its whereabouts now.

I think this guys car has gone the other way round, lots of TR7's get Rover SD1 bits, but this SD1 seems to have been turned into a TR7!

SD1 convertable? A little work by the engineers at BL, and it could have been the next Stag. Certainly looks a bit TR6-ish from the back though...

A little too much "Space 1999" for my liking.

I like the SDI dash in this car, but could never be bothered enough to do this conversion however....imagine the wiring nightmare for the next owner!!
(- for the record, the standard dash is also more than fine for me!!)

While we're thrashing about, my only pet peeve with this car would be the fugly floor mats (you don't know how much I HATE RUBBER MATS!)

It looks nice at first glance but upon closer examination, the instrumentation tends to be a little too spread out for my liking. Some of the gages are located over the center console, out of the focused line of sight. Need to take you eyes off the road to check gages, not good. [:(]

Nothing beats the dash in the dream car in my opinion:

"Functional complexity" [:D]

The blue Grinnall above has the registration number MIL, I think this stands for Moss International Limited, suppliers of TR parts and the owners before Lorraine Peterson. Car was for sale for £8,500 2 or 3 years ago.
The SD1 convertible looks good. Should look a bit different though as the SD1 was a stretched Ferarri Daytona, without the patented round back lights. A shortened convertible SD1 should therefore look like a Daytona spider.

I'm loving that dash set up. I bet it still rattles though like it did in the SD1. LOL.
Love to know where he has fitted the light switches though.

I must admit that I quite like the dash, it looks very smart.
