Well Steph, I would print off the advice Wayne has posted in this thread to take with you for a start. All good points to check.

The car may be 1981 registered but it looks to be a Canley built car (steering wheel & front panel badge) which would make it a 1980 manufacture. If it is an 1980 car the VIN number should begin TPAEJ7AT followed by a 6 digit number - check the plate in the engine bay.

It does appear original apart from the non standard alloys - look like Austin Montego 15" wheels. Have you got a matching spare? Nothing wrong with those alloys but ask what other mods have been made to the car - larger alloys are often fitted to allow a brake conversion to be done. Again nothing wrong with that as long as properly done!

The interior does look original & again suggests a 1980 built car as it is the last trim style used. It may be the photos but the door trim looks a different shade of tan to the seats so may have been replaced - the door pull handle is on the wrong way round. Have repairs been done to the doors? Check the sunroof is in good condition - hard to find replacement parts if it is torn or damaged. By the way it is not a Webasto, the cars were fitted with Edrose roofs.

If the body is sound & you don't find any horror stories then I would say it looks a decent example but the asking price is a bit high - looks like the seller will haggle though! Take a look, take some photos & notes, & have a think about it before you take the plunge. By all means come back on here with any questions! Good luck!

Pity the photos are not larger.

The passenger side door mirror appears non std and is not mounted in usual location.

The engine bay does not have the fresh scoop fitted. Hopefully it is in the boot as without it you end up with engine fumes entering the cabin. Replacements are getting scarce and the reproductions were in fibreglass, not metal.

There also appears to be some unusual cabling or tubing running over the valve cover.

Good luck.

Hi Steph,
I agree with Tony and Owen, take a camera with you and take some snaps of anything you are not sure of, and post them on here. Would'nt rush into anything, buyer market at the moment!
If it was closer would have a look with you no problem, or ask if you can road test it to Luton [:p] and will have look [;)]
Cheers John

The Drop Head looks nice in Cavalry Blue... but it looks as if it has an American-Spec front bumper! Was £2000, I see.

Hiya.

Don't like the white one - 'cos it's white. Would have to be cheap for me (but I'm not you!).

Like you I much prefer the FHCs (I feel I can say that having several of each), but that DHC goes look interesting from what you can see in the photo. I'd certainly be going for a look. And you never know how long they've had it and how hard times are at the minute...good time for buying.

If the car is any good of course.

Good luck with your viewing tomorrow.

I'd be very wary about buying a TR7 from a general car dealer unless you're 100% sure what you're looking at. It's probably a trade in he knows nothing about. The blue convertable has the wrong bumper, the wrong (single bulge) bonnet, different wheels, & wrong type door mirrors. Not trying to put you of too much, but don't waste your money on a donkey. There are some very nice examples out there but also a lot more rubbish ones. Take your time, do lots of research so you know what to look out for & the right car will turn up.

Hi.

All very good points that Andy makes. Especially the donkey bit.

However.

Better to have a single bulge bonnet that isn't rotten.
More modern (?) mirrors you can actually see something in.
Pretty (don't know as can't see them) wheels.
A replacement bumper that's in good nick!!!

Only giving a balanced view.

But do look carefully. These TR7s are cheapo, tatty, rusty British Leyland stuff from the height of its' tat era [:0]

Don't like the white one - 'cos it's white.

Shaun.... There's nothing wrong with white Fixed Heads, particularly if they have no sunroof,a black vinyl top and a green tartan interior

LOL Maxwell [:D]
