Which SatNav do you have Paul? I like the idea of the speed limit warnings.

Sadly I won't be at the AGM today. I was hoping I'd be able to line up a filming session in the midlands but 'Bomb' just hasn't got off the ground yet.

One thing I will say that needs a mention at the AGM is that Greg Cassar fella needs a jolly big pat on the back for his work on the web site - in particular getting the membership renewal up and running.

In the Nordic countries we have a neat little device warning us for the camera speed traps.
N.B. It's not a navigator even though it is GPS based. Cost is just above GBP 100 and the data base update is then free
- for life.

Both I and my dad have them in our wedges as speedometers, since neither of us can see the important part of the oem speedo,
as can be seen in this photograph: Image
Of course I've opted for one with a green display! [8D] As a speedo they are pretty accurate; roughly +/- 0.8 km/h...

Hi,
Went along to yesterdays AGM, very intresting afternoon. Never realised the work that goes on behind scenes. Very friendly atmosphere and prooves IMHO what a friendly and great club The TR Drivers Club (and by far the best TR7/8 club out there of course IMHO!) really is [:D] Will go again no doubt, one gent (sorry cant remember your name [:I] ) travelled 230 miles just to do as i done, watch, vote and listen.
Paul W was there in 'The One Eyed Red Monster' [;)] i am sure he will be along to tell of his afternoon / evening shortly. Great to see the Grinnal back on the road. Also good to meet up with members from here.
Will certainly plan on going next year, what can you do better on a cold Jan afternoon that spend it with like minded people [?]
Thanks for the reminder and invite Andy. Roll on Stoneleigh in a few weeks, shame we cant get a 'unoffical' display in the barns ie. try and park all together?
As for poxy Sat Nav's, borrowed a Garmin from work, BMW sell these through there dealerships so we have several demo's, bl88dy thing took me home 100% different way i went there, what is that all about [V]
Cheers John

Yes i agree,John.A very interesting and informative afternoon. The
drive up in the 'Red monster'was great and it behaved very well, tho'
i think there is air in the coolant-heater blew hot and cold and guage
fluctuated between half way and the three quarter mark.
The agm told us that this club is small but financially healthy.
Every one on the commitee work hard to ensure it stays that way.
Highlighted was the fact that we need to pick up new members, and
find ways to do this.Hopefully this forum can be a portal for new
members - if you are not in the best wedge club yet, please join us
in the TRDC,and help us go forward as the rotten register falter(their
membership is falling)and i'm sure we can pick up their dissenfranchised
TR7/8 owners.
The journey home was a bit dodgy to say the least! One head light
stopped working, leaving just the o/s to light the way.On the A10 at
Buntingford i hit a pot hole and lost that one too!I latched on to a
Volvo barge and followed him for 5 miles when the lights came back on!
Not one car flashed me driving on unlit roads with only side lights
working-stealth mode? That single bore exhaust is'nt very stealthy tho'
as i went through Bedford,i sware the shop windows were rattling every
time i changed gear(late,to get the full bark)and the night life there
were all gawping at this 'one eyed red monster'wondering what it was.
Thanks to the commitee for an enjoyable afternoon of tea and bikkies
and looking after the club so well, and especially a big thankyou to
Phil and Kev for ten years hard labour in putting us safe and secure
on the classic car scene - cheers guys!

See ya. Paul

Thanks to all you guys for coming along, glad Paul got home OK in the one eyed monster. my journey home in the 7 went OK, 120 miles non stop, OK apart from the rubbish cheapo Halogen conversions which are rubbish on dipped, might as well be blind. Wipac Quadoptics now on order.

Easy on there Paul. The Register is of course a great club and isn't seeing a substantial drop in numbers at all - certainly less of a drop than the average drop in membership across the board for all the other Triumph Clubs. I think the future will see all of the clubs merging eventually anyway so might as well start now in cutting rivalry and working together. I'm a happy member of the TR Register, TR Drivers Club AND Club Triumph and enjoy the benefits each one has to offer.[:p]

The best thing about this forum is that it has been independant of any particular club and has in my opinion been a much friendlier environment for it - absence of politics and all that! [:D]

I couldnt make the TRDC AGM but would have liked to have attended, I'm sure it used to be held in the marquee as part of the Billing Weekend? Thanks for all the good work to all those working away behind the scenes though !!![:)]

Sounds home from home on the red monster front Paul, mine travelled up to Durham and back this weekend setting of car alarms as she went. [}:)]

With an ever decreasing amount TRs as rust and accidents eat into the numbers (let alone age into the numbers of drivers themselves!), I feel that there has to be a coming together of clubs if they are to survive in 5, 10, 15 or 20 years time.

Hi,
Remember reading on another TR7 site a few years ago that the TRDC was doomed and would fold within a year or two but its still going strong [:D] I am a member of both TRDC and Reg and see good things in both but IMHO (and only that) feel the TRDC is the better for me personaly. I agree with you Wayne its great to see all clubs here, after all we are all basically intrested in the same thing [8D]
I think the worry is that there is need for younger people to be infused by classic cars and in that respect hats of to you Wayne and the 'Yoof Massive' [;)] in addresing this.
Cheers John

Wayne, you know i love you guys in da yoot',and Phil the Grinnall nut,
but the old guard hissed me off many moons ago. They infact did so much
damage that i decided to have nothing to do with any car club for a
very long time.It took a certain Mr.Clancy that i meet a couple of years back at Stoneleigh to point me to this site and to let me know
i was'nt the only fool to love the wedge. From there i learnt of the
friendliest club for the wedgemaniac, the TRDC.The Register have upset
alot of seven owners that i have met, even at Malvern last summer, there
were some snide remarks pointed at our corner of the field.I know its
the old guard, but they are the root cause of the ill feeling that gets
generated.I have praises to sing of Ian Freemans saxons, very nice
bunch and very relaxed about cars,i had a great evening with them last
year.Small is sometimes more efficient,we are in the black and comfortable
from what was said yesterday, why take on a bigger financial burden
and costs from the Register?
I cant speak for anyone else, its just my opinion and ,yes i should
turn the other cheek, accept defeat, and welcome an amalgamation, but the
wounds are still very sore.
Maybe i'm just a bit 'Punk' for their 'golden oldies'!Maybe i like to
be the underdog/the poor relation/the black sheep/the leper......
....nuff said,appologies to the YOOF!

See ya. Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks very much for the kind words about the East Saxons group (TR Register). You are most welcome to join us whenever you like.
As a long term TR7 then TR8 owning member I have seen and experienced first hand the ill- informed, and it took a split and restart of a new group to get over some of the problems.
I hope we are now all seeking the same goal for all TR's, and for that matter as an owner of a Triumph Herald for some twenty eight years for all Triumphs together.

Hope to see you at the Drivers club meeting this week.

Cheers
Ian

Paul, with rawk star style like you have - your always welcome as an honourary YOOF!! [:D]

I know what you mean though and indeed this has recently seen a re-surgance in the magazine with a recent letter from some ole' duffer who felt that the wedges were an embaressment to the brand "TR." What followed however was a barrage of replies telling him where to stick it showing that opinion is very much in a minority.

Interestingly, the people who run the club are all pro wedge - the General Manager runs his TR7 Sprint as everyday transport. The wedges have also enjoyed years of motorsport under the register hillclimb and sprint championships and now have Richard Connew as registrar so its not all doom and gloom.

Funny thing is, my old man used to get stick for his GTR4 Dove from the register old guard in the old days. It wasn't a "real TR" because it had a roof and rear seats. It wasn't pure bred as it was made in Wimbledon and designed by Harringtons of the Rootes Group etc etc - fast forward to now and they are all falling over themselves to find a Dove because of it's rarity [8D]

Paul, your story reads like the history of how the TRDC was formed so its fully understandable. If your young AND your have a wedge its like a double whammy, you wouldnt believe the number of times I ve had the duffers come up and tell me:
"how grateful I should be that my Dad has let me have a go in his 'entry level' TR [:D]
OR
"When you grow up you might be allowed a REAL TR" [:0] With the Yoof I hope we will do a small part to change these attitudes... That said I've had great times with Phil's Grinnall group and the Yoof at all sorts of events..

I love the Billing Weekend and hopefully we'll get a few Yoofs along this year too [;)]

and I can't see them amalgamating the various (fully owned or rented'n adapted) offices and move into one
single 'holy' shrine... If we cannot get Clubs that are fully run by non-paid volunteers to merge, how should it be
possible when there's income/job/'careers' at stake?

We've had amalgamation (of the 'Triumph Club of Sweden' and the 'TR Club Sweden') on the agenda in Sweden
for soon to be three decades, but there's always some (usually old fart TR owners - for some strange reason [probably
the same farts who cannot see the TR7/8 as a 'true' TR]) who think their personal interests would suffer from having
only one common club for all models - and they always turn up in numbers on the AGM that have the final vote
(usually never seen else) and oust the boardmembers who've been working towards a change.

It ain't gonna happen in our lifetime...

PS
I am of course a member of not only The Triumph Club of Sweden, but also of TR8 Car Club of America (nowadays TWOA
- a name I personally really dislike) Triumph Sports Six Club, TR Drivers Club, TR Register UK and Sportvagnsklubben Västerås.

To add to that I receive courtesy-copies of the magazines from a lot of clubs so I can easily follow the trends in the world of
Triumph clubs: TR Club Sweden, TR-Register D, TR7 IG, TR Club DK, Dansk Triumph Automobilklub and the Triumph Spitfire
Club NL among others...

At the NEC Classic this year a chap manning the TR Register stand succeeded in slagging off the TRDC to me before he knew I was a pretty active member. I put him straight on where the support was for TR film productions! I doubt he had quite the same view of his club by the time I'd finished!

But I still like the TR Register despite it's often fuddy duddy membership and the fact they refused me back in 1986 because I didn't have a proper TR, and the fact that they had no interest in the Bullet DVD.
