The moment you have plans to buy a third one it's time to start worrying [:D]

I guess I hit the addiction stage.

I bought a '80 convertible a couple of weeks ago. It is my third.

Originally, I bought a '75 model in great shape and quickly blew the motor and replaced it with a Ford 2.8.

I wrecked it and then replaced it with a '77 with a bad motor and just moved everything over from the first car. We highly modified this car with a Porsche 914 removable Targa top.

Unfortunately, I got caught out in a softball size hail storm and it destroyed this car about 10 years ago.

So I bought this new car that already has the engine replaced with at Buick 231.

I have big restoration plans for this car....but it will be a while before I do much more than paint it.

I am also looking at another '77 model for more parts. [:p]

Do you have any pictures of the targa top car?

Unfortunately, I do not have any good pictures. I built this car way before digital images were made or good scanners.

That is a heck of a nice looking top set up (and car).

What kind of body work was required around the targa top? Is the contour of the TR7 top and width the same as the 914 bit or did you have to adjust one or both?

It was a lot of work. The 914 top is wider, so several inches had to be removed from the fiberglass top and mounting pieces.

I bought the top and the top mounting pieces from a wrecking yard.

The car had to be re-shaped some on both ends and had to I re-shape the top around the door glasses pretty considerably.

Of course, the top leaked some around the door glasses and I never got it to seal as good as I would have liked.

I am not sure that I would ever try it again.

There was a long discussion a while ago about hardtops.

http://www.forum.triumphtr7.com/topic.a ... hichpage=1

My efforts to make one are there. Like the packaging says "Some assembly required"....sounds like your work to make the targa top fit. I still haven't finished my hardtop, also haven't given up yet.

Thank for the information on the top...won't try that.

Cool project, but equally as difficult or more.

Maybe we could start an addiction group for the multiple car illness/obsession.

I have 3 TR8s, a TR7 race car and TR7 parts car, plus 3 TR7 engines 2 extra V8s and enough parts to almost make another.

It could be worse, I used to own 7 MGBs (at the same time) 6 of them were black Limited Edition models...

Hahaha...Im going upstate (PA) this weekend. Just bought a rebuilt 2.0L, another trans, set of front/rear bumpers, 5-speed 2.0L bellhousing, driveshaft and some misc. suspension parts. For what he was asking...I couldnt pass it up! (I wuz only looking for a engine. Oh well, gotta make more space!)

LOL! I just feel the insational-need to buy, when I can afford to, anything I find thats affordable. Like the stuff Im picking up this weekend, I only want the 2.0L, the rest Ill advertise for those in need of whatever parts I have extras of.

As much as Ive tried to stop my acumilative mentality for these LBC's, I just enjoy them so much I cant stop. Like an ex-girlfriend that no matter how much we fight, we keep ending up in bed! LOL
