Much appreciated, as soon as it stops raining I'm going to have at it. Aside from anything else, it's blocking my garage :)

I know this will sound silly, but have you tightened up the battery terminals fully ? The eclick is most probably the solenoid not engaging fully due to resistance in the connections. If the battery connectiona are good and clean and tight then check the solendoid end and the earth strap end to make sure that they are clean and tight too. After that , give the solendoid a good thump with a hammer.

Still standing !

Thought y'all might like to know.. after much wrestling, I've changed the starter.. I got the old one to the point where the solenoid would click in, but it wouldn't turn. That was an almost completely rusted-away live feed from the battery.

It still only turns over about one in three times.. I figure that's probably the relay.. BUT.. after cleaning the rotor arm, coil connections, and the spark plugs.. it starts!

Only on starting fluid, mind. One step at a time. :)
