I fitted Spax uprated/non-adjustable gas front dampers which gave up the ghost after about 10,000 miles, although to be fair that equates to about 15 years on the car. I now have the KYB gas dampers on the front and so far they have performed well.

I've got KYB gas up front (9 years and 23,000 miles ago) and still fine. Koni's were on the back when I got the car (same time as above) and are still fine.

Are Gaz no good? I've got their shocks and springs on my car although not been able to test them yet as the car currently has no engine / gearbox / axle etc etc

I bought a set of Gaz adjustable for front and rear when they were on sale from Rimmer Bros, but not fitted them yet.

I had a set of Spax adjustables on the front from the late 90s. Over the years I'd dialed them up from 3 to the 8 setting, and then one side failed in 2012.

I was going to have them rebuilt (as the selling point was that this was possible) but was told by the NSW vendor that Spax had changed hands and design specs and couldn't rebuild pre-change models.

As the 30 yo Konis I have on the rear are still good I just bought a set of KYB front struts.

IMHO, these are nearly as good as the Spax before one side failed.

Owen
ps. I'm keeping the full Gaz set until the rears fail.

I Fitted GAZ shocks 2 years ago with standard springs.
The original shocks were standard, and very weak, The front end just bounced and the car wallowed around corners so I fitted new Gaz adjustable shocks with new standard springs. I found that the front was very firm, so have adjusted these to the softest setting. This is fine and with the rears set mid adjustment gives good stability, hardly any roll and pitch.
