Hi

Sorry Roy picture still there but just re-sized a little.

Thanks for email David, another interesting car, like I said most early car's were recalled and scrapped. They were not being fixed in the jigs correctly and were welded up out of true. We were given a measurement from top of A post diagonal to base door aperture, it was amazing how far they were out side too side [:0] Hence we could seal the roof in the top corner and get glass to fit at rear.

Cheers John

Joined Roy today, Bloke just walked in off the street and asked me if I wanted to buy is 2001 MGF Step, 55k and 1 owner from new. I handed him over £500 and I can't find a thing wrong with it. 10 months MOT and 2 months Tax. The new daily driver and a keeper.

When I was a kid, I was convinced that you could be an MG guy or a Triumph guy, but not both. My first three cars were MGAs, and I still have the third one. Somewhere along the line, I realized that a cool car is a cool car, be it Chevy or Ford, MG or TR. I would love to add a "late model" MG roadster to my fleet, if they were readily available in the States.

It would seem we are getting quite a few MG-F'ers amongst the ranks of the membership here.
Like the TR-7/8 it's another car that has gotten bad press (mainly from people who wouldn't have a clue, but that doesn't stop them from sharing their expertise) and as such, suffers an unfairly negative biased reliability image.

May I remind all those who maybe considering adding an MG-F/TF to their collection or those who already have: The T-Bar forum is dedicated to these cars and it is a friendly, insightful and knowledgeable resource as this fine forum. http://www.the-t-bar.com/

My dad was a GM man, my friend's Dad, a mile to the west was a Ford man (he had a '57 Ford). When we got our first car (we previously piled into the GMC truck, don't know how we all fit) it was a '56 Chev. When the neighbour came over to have a look I could see him surreptitiously leaning into the front fender. I later asked my Dad why he was doing that, he laughed and said he had probably heard in the rumour mill that Chevy's were built with thinner metal and he wanted to see if it would dent. [:)]

Hi,

Well done John, I think MGF / TF has got to be the best bargain out there at the moment. BMW spent a shed load of money when they reworked the car from F to TF and turned it into the car it should have always been.

Great Forum Cobber. just had a nose around and I see the same problems these car's suffered from are still current!

Cheers John

Interesting to read about those early cars John. Just recently I saw a really nice MGF at a show, it was a very early car with chassis number 66?? (can't remember the last two).

I think all those later Rover's, especially those from the BMW era, are hugely underrated - but that does make them something of a bargain.

Took a 2002 ZT off a chap last week as a part-ex, 51k, V6 in metallic green, needed a suspension arm for its MOT. It's taxed until the new year so it has become my colleagues car for the next 3-4 months. Total cost to us, with the MOT work, less than £300. It drives like a dream. Correct Tony these prices are lunacy.

Now is the time to buy them. If I had the room I would buy a few and sit on them for a decade, they've got to be a good long term investment.

Nice one John.
