If my garage was wider I'd use the crate and blanket method to stick my back and legs out the door. Unfortunately it isn't so as per the songtitle, "the only way is up!" for my legs.

another option is to get a younger member of the family to do the under dash stuff and just work on the under bonnet bit, my son was not too happy though, but he is 6' 4"....[:p]
