I got stopped this past summer. I had taken my GF to work at a local town. Beautiful sunny day with the top down. I was coming back out of town and not paying much mind. I was just liesurely working through the gears when I saw the cop sitting off to the right. Sure enough he came out after me. Seems this is a favorite spot for thier speed trap as the limit goes from 25mph to 35mph right where he was sitting. He said I was going 45 in the 25 zone. We exchanged opinions on where the limit changed and how fast I thought I was going. I finally said politely that I came over here all the time, my GF worked in town and I was just droping her at her job. I said I was sorry but didn't intend to break any laws this morning. He said "If I give you a warning will you pay more attention in the future?" I said, " I most certainly will sir"[:)]

They had the speed trap set up there all day so they were looking to make some money. I'm beting that the cop never expected some 57yo guy to be driving this flashy sports car with the loud exhaust. If I were 30, I don't think I would have got the warning.

The effortless acelleration of this car really does fool you. I was just stiring the gear lever puttering along. Thank God I didn't stomp on the throttle that morning!!

I have a historical plate on my 1980 and was pulled over because the copper didn't believe it was a 29 year old car! He didn't even want to see my license, just the registration! I guess its true to say that the design was ahead of its time.

I got "yelled at" a time or two in my previous TR8, driving a little too spiritly. LOL (small town, cops know me/ my cars)

But the most attention I get in my wedges is from passers-by. Always an influx of questions everywhere I go :)

The plate hangs under the front bumper on/with a hinge, and (at what equals roughly 55-60kph) the air stream going in towards the radiator
forces it to pivot back and up. And the reverse when I slow down. My view on this is; who on earth would be interested in reading a front license
plate at highway speeds? (Well, apart from speed trap cameras... [:D] ) But our friends in uniform seems to have another view on this. [:(]

The last time I got stopped was because the ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) system flagged me up as not having a valid vehicle tax disk. Classic problem that a child could predict:

1) car off road for 6 months
2) buy a new tax disk on a Saturday
3) no-one around at weekend to update database
4) people pulled over on Sunday etc.

Pathetic!

We also have pathetic people (parked up in laybys) with mobile ANPR cameras monitoring every passing car. This is purely to detect the mainly law abiding who may have forgotten to renew, as these guys are not police and have no backup to stop cars - they just send bills to the registered address.

So, the dangerous people who drive in unregistered cars without tax or insurance continue to do so, unmolested.

Welcome to the growing stupidity of the UK 'powers that be'. More examples on application [:)]

This is a pandoras box.No one likes to be pulled by the police but if your 7 was nicked then you would be happy they were pulling up suspicious looking bods. The problem is that the police use more and more sly hidden electronic tactics to catch people out then send the bill to your house. So we get the idea and quite justified that we as motorists are easy pickings.Everyone has seen the morons who drive with a death wish however they get away with a lot as the electronic spys just catch the speeder who is doing 31 in a 30.How many of you have seen those vans marked with 'community camera working in partnership with (insert force) to make roads safer' These vans hide on bridges and in laybys just behind trees and so on to catch out the guy who is just over the speed limit. How many of us have seen these vans driving home after a good days work cutting up cars, not indicating and speeding[V] . I have for one, big brother is here and watching you! Yes I have had tickets in the past so now I drive to the spped limit and annoy everyone behind me for not going fast enough. You just can't win but it is sweet to see the knob in his company BMW who just gave you the finger as he roared past stopped in the next few miles and getting breath teasted[:D].The problem for me as TR7 driver is 90% of males even if they are driving a 850cc mini have to prove how big their dicks are and race me[:0].

The very first day I drove my new TR7 to work, I was in the middle of 4 lanes of traffic, moving at exactly the speed they were, when a cop dove in and cut me out of the herd to write me a speeding ticket. Of course that was 1976, and a wedge-shaped car stood out "like a shark in a goldfish bowl" to quote one of the contemporary car magazine reviews of the TR7. Appearancecs matter! There was some joking around the office about how a car that looks fast (no matter how poky it really is) might earn you a ticket for "intent to speed"...

I got stopped a lot forty-plus years ago driving my MGA. In the past twenty years, I've yet to be stopped driving either my TR6 or my TR8. Was it my age and appearance? (Hell, as a long-haired kid, I got stopped once driving a 1956 Metropolitan because the cop noticed that the front licence plate was wired on instead of being bolted on. "You know, that's the kind of thing you see on a stolen car.") Was it how a 16 year old drives as opposed to a 60 year old? Was it the fact that the MG was my daily driver and I spent a lot more time behind the wheel? Probably all of the above. Being balding, and driving somewhat sensibly, is probably the defense against being stopped.

For me, it's too soon to tell as I've only had my Spidey for a year and a half and it seems to spend as much time in the shop as it does with me! Surprisingly enough, I've never been pulled over...my feeling is when it does happen I will be in the 7. Something about that little car just begs to go fast. You have to admit you're getting on a bit, when you can say, "48
years ago, I took delivery of my new [1962] Morgan +4". Boy was it
quick.

It was too late to prepare it for Bathurst that year, but I drove it
up there for the meeting. In those days, sports cars were ALL 2
seater soft tops, no "sports" saloons back then.

The cops used to have open season on any sports car, heading for
Bathurst, for the easter race weekend. We all knew this, & drove so
slowly, & carefully, almost legally in fact. However I never did
get to Bathurst, in a soft top, on a race weekend without getting
booked for something.
I think that time I was booked for "crossing the centerline,
without indicating intentions" when some clown came out of a
driveway, without looking, & I had to dodge him.

At least, no points back then, just pay the fine, & on your way,
with no loss of licence. One mate of mine used to boast he'd
papered the walls of his bedroom with speeding tickets. It meant he
was broke, but still had a drivesr licence.
