TR7 Interior - Beige Cord / Tan Check / Golden Velour

Postby jrich4411 » 27 Mar 2013 19:37

Can anyone explain the difference between biscuit tan and gold tan? I purchased new interior door panels from Vicki-Brit many years ago but I don't remember which color tan I bought. It's now time to replace the rear panel and I'm not sure which color panel to purchase. At $170 American I don't want to order the wrong color!

Thanks!

AFAIK there were three original factory "tan" type interiors. Biscuit is the early insipid one. Golden Tan came later always with Tartan inserts. Biscuit was always plain. Finally Tan Velour on export Tr7's, 1981 and home market TR8's.

I've been asking the same question myself. Thanks for clearing that up. Is V.B. the only supplier of upholstery for our cars these days? I no longer find seats or panels listed with Moss or the Roadster Factory.

couple other features..

1st pic. Golden Tan with Tartan Insert seats and door trims-late square locking buttons, late door handles, light in door. Trim Code RAG.

2nd/3rd pic. Biscuit door cards, early door handle, round door locking buttons, no lights in doors, beige nyloncord seats. Trim Code AAA or CAAA

4th pic. Golden Tan Velour. Pleated Velour replaces tartan inserts, door trims-late square locking buttons, late door handles, light in door. Trim Code AAM / AMG.

It gets a bit more involved with other codes for things such as carpets, parcel shelves etc. More info available here...

Rimmers also carry the stuff. I bought some door cards on sale flyer couple of years ago from them. This stuff often goes on sale during the winter months.

It's a nest of some sort. Seat foam and stuff. Regular supply of hazelnuts up under the dash now seem to have finally run out! Best picture I could find to show the trim as the door cards were pretty faded.

Vicki now has black interior as original. I like the early door cards, especially in black they seem to fit a little nicer, like em on Spiders too. Don't like black carpet (Rimmers) . Nothing very wrong with it but I think shortest tuft possible for the 'mown' look and sewn edging on the floor mats would have been better. Black shows every hair too. Just saying.. If it helps anyone make a choice. ..

Seat covers are from Rimmers too. I deleted the large TRIUMPH logo's. Too brash! Must get some pix with them off. Nice not too have to worry too much about the seats and they are pretty fitted so you can pretty much forget they are on there. Not cheep but a good investment I think. Come in black or grey.

Personally, I prefer cashews but never had any fall out from under the dash. I did have a squirrel lived in one of the Spitfires until I blocked of the hole in the tunnel though.

A couple of nice photos of the rare AAM or AMG trim code seats for the late TR7 and TR8's

A respectable collection.

Seeing the nest in Vicki's car prompted me to show what I found in the box section, under the carpet of my imported TR8. There was a small nest and this skeletal rodent!
I have been refurbishing the interior and now realise why the tan carpets are so different. Although the original looks brown.
