Clutch Alignment Tool

I am thinking of buying a Clutch Alignment Tool for my standard 2lt TR7 and see that Rimmer sell one. Has anyone got one of these tools and would you recommend getting one?

Depends if you are planning on doing any other clutches. When I did the TR7 I bought a metal set with about half a dozen different sizes but it was about twice the cost of that one. This was on the basis that between my son and I we were likely to be doing other cars. That was about 4 years ago and it has not been used since! Before that I used a short piece of 15mm copper pipe with duct tape wound around it to the required diameter, never failed.

Lots of folks use an old input shaft from a scrap gearbox.

I've used it. Compared to paying some one else to do it the cost is nothing. You can make your own out of broom stick or whatever if you can get the right size and turn it down.

I have a variety of clutch alignment tools, I prefer the dummy shaft type like you're looking at, the other types are a bit more fiddly to use, I've got a whole set of these now and only use the others as a last resort, when my dummy shaft set doesn’t cover the car I'm working on.

As said by others depends what your plans are, if you going to be out there every weekend doing ' private work ' on cars fitting clutches, etc. ( been there, wrote the book, got the bad back and the oily T shirt believe me ! thankfully too old now ! ) then get the universal kit or for a one off ( hopefully ! ) clutch replacement then that tool is ideal.

Thanks for all the comments and views guys. For me this will be a tool that I use once in a blue moon and will have to blow the dust of it when I do get it out to use. Or that is the hope A friend of mine also said about getting a universal one for about 50 pounds more, but I have no intention of spending weekends changing clutches on cars. Think I am getting too old for that now. I am looking at getting a ramp or building a pit, so I do not have to be on my back.
