Starter Relay

I have a 1980 tr-7. I ordered the starter relay as it was pretty cheap. I am having difficulty locating the proper relay in the back of the glovebox. The red ones on either side are for the headlights so those can be ruled out. which one is it? and on which side when I am facing the glovebox? Also, what do you use to clean the contacts on the connecter block receiving the plug?

Relays are in different positions depending on year (indeterminately called early, intermediate, late) and market (UK, European and N/A). Mine is right middle. Check the manual to make sure which one looks like yours as year first registered and build date may not coincide.

I clean the connector block with contact cleaner. I have bought it in pump (preferable for storing in trunk tool bag as it's not under pressure) but more commonly available in aerosol from auto parts stores, electrical stores (Queale as an example) or my current one from Walmart in the automotive department.

One of the wires on the starter relay is a dirty great big white/red wire so it should be easy enough to spot.
