Exhaust blow.

Postby REPLIC8 » 06 Jul 2014 08:37

I've just installed a stainless exhaust to my TR7 and it has a very slight blow out of one of the joints. I used exhaust paste on both surfaces when I assembled it. Don't really want to take it apart again. What the chances of it sealing itself up over time with use?

If it is on a socket and spigot joint with slots along the pipe this often happens. The exhaust fitters generally just hold some paste in the joint with the engine running so it sets quickly, same with any small circumferential leak where the pipes join.

Were I you, I'd have that joint welded up tight. Exhaust leaks are bad, bad, bad. No, that leak won't heal itself like the shaving cut on your chin.

Mildred do you get many shaving cuts on the chin? [:D]

I hear all about it every morning as Abner stumbles in to breakfast. Littering the table with small chunks of bloody tissue tends to spoil the new day's ambiance.

Unlike Abnor's shaving cuts I don't think it'll close up with time.......

All fixed. [:)] Slackened off the clamp to the offending joint, slapped some exhaust paste in the slots and redone it with an extra clamp. Sounds lovely now, just a nice burble out of the tailpipe.
