Zoe,

There are so many write ups in the press and the net about how comfortable the TR7 seats are.......you should still feel Ok after a longish journey.

After about 30 years they don't give the same support but all the bits are available as our learned friend John stated. Is the rubber diaphram at the bottom of the seat on its way out? Mine did that about 10 years ago and I'd slowly sunk a couple of inches without realising it.

I tried a Saab 900 convertible, while I was looking for something to use when I couldn't get into the 7 FHC, & had to park where I would not leave the 8.

What a heavy lumbering thing they are. I was a little surprised, considering the good write ups I have seen for them. Driving one, you felt isolated from the world, even with the roof off, not bad if you did not like driving. My horse truck was more pleasant on the road.

My recently acquired Peugeot 306 does give a bit of the same feel with the roof on. The dark window tint, quiet engine, excellent synchromesh on the gearbox, but a vague wavy gear stick all make it a bit like driving a video game.

This is reduced by the nimble handling, & does disappear once the roof is down. Actually the way they have got it to corner quite well, with a remarkable ability to handle speed bumps is a real credit to the Frenchies.

I am still yet to find anything as nice as the 7. Zoe, take up that offer of driving another 7. I have found quite a difference between a really good, & a not so good 7.

Hi Zoe,

Just to add my penny, <font size="6"></font id="size6">Dont do It!<font size="1"></font id="size1">

I spent some time a few years ago rebuilding my seat on the "8" and even with my back the way it is.I did however introduce a liitle more padding and a carpet tile to reinforce the diaphram.

I'm quite happy to drive the car for 4or 5 hours and don't look like a complete cripple when I crawl out.

Steve should be able to get your seat just as you need it so don't loose hope there is an answer.

All the best

Ian

hi all , went to see the saab , and yes had it been ok i would have probably had it , but while i was there i decided it had to replace my fiesta, not Amber, i drove an hour in Amber to see it with an Ikea memory foam pillow towards the front of the seat , seemed to help , am off to Ace Cafe london tomrw so will see how the pillow works again , the saab was a realy nice condition one , but steve couldnt come with me to see it and i reckon there was somethin wrong with it , it juddered constantly ,wheel and steering wheel judder!! the chap said it was cause i wasnt used to low profile tyres , but steves Saab Aero donsnt do that , so i cheeked the bloke and asked him if i could take it up the road to the garage not far from him, and cheeked the mot man to ' have a quick look at it 'and very kindley he took it round the block , and he said it jumped along the road , and that it certainly wasnt me imagineing anything , so i was right !! ( i was quite pleases with my self ) so then had a nice journey home im my 'smooth' tr7 !!

Zoe, Saabs were great cars, until GM really got into them. The 9000 is the most comfortable car I know and a bit of a grandads Q car as it has pretty respectable performance for a big car. The 9-3 (especially convertable I believe) suffers from cracking of the bulkhead around the rack mounts, giving creaky steering. If your other half is a Saab fan he is probably aware of this but get any prospective purchase checked carefully.
Glad to hear you are keeping the 7 after all that effort with the colour, changing the Festa is not a big loss comparatively!

Zoe,

I suggest like all the rest say, its your drivers seats need some attention. If you had lived up north I would gadly had a look at you seat and put the headrest the correct way round for you.

Still amazed on how you got your car started with the extra wire, on the road run and still awaiting for you to join[:D].

Don't do it

Jim
