Alloy Wheels - Enlarging The Centre Bore - Help!

I need the centre hole of some alloy wheels opened up to take a standard size spigot ring. I've trawled the net and have found only one company advertising this, in York.

I'm in Bushey close to where the M25 meets the M1 and am willing to travel up to 60 miles to someone that can do this. Any ideas or recommendations?

If this is to make it fit over the hub centre you might find that a 5mm spacer gets you the same result.

Hi Peter,

It's the opposite. The centre bore in the wheels is approx 1mm bigger than the hub centre. The wheels can't centre themselves properly and although they're balanced shake the car about. Spigot rings aren't available in that size as the material would have to be 0.5mm thick...............

I think the only way around this is to open up the wheel centres to allow fitment of a std size spigot ring.

OK, I see now. Do the wheels require tapered nuts or is the wheel specifically a hub located type? In my experience using 2 types of wheels where my usual road wheels are hub located & have the usual mid-speed shimmy but the MGF rims I use on race days are wheel nut located don't have any vibration. Also the race tyres wear a lot faster than the road wheels & come to think of it I don't think I've ever had them balanced.

I had a similar (smaller) problem but cured it by fitting a 10 thou feeler gauge. What you will find is that the studs will tend to put the wheel to one side - put an appropriate sized feeler in the appropriate point that stops said movement - or fit 2 semicircles worth of feelers.

I thought about packing the wheel centres with feeler gauge like material, but being so thin it would probably tear apart when taking the wheels on and off a few times. Having the centres bored out to take a std size spigot ring should make the wheels a standard fit without worries item.

These wheels take tapered nuts. My old steel wheels and Maestro Turbo wheels are hub located and problem free.
