1) The cable passes through a rubber grommit in the floorpan just behind the heater. How does the cable pass through the grommit if the fittings on both ends are way bigger than the hole in the grommit? However, If the hole was any bigger the cable would slop around in it and provide no seal at all.
2) On a UK car does the cable pass just in front of the top of the clutch pedal? I forgot to note the routing of the original cable before removing it.
