engine bay ........

Postby gaz » 23 Feb 2010 20:59

I'm looking at cleaning the engine bay up a bit more not too much bling, and are sourcing a few cadmium plated bits 'n' bobs I feel I have enough chrome/polished alloy in there for my liking,
bonnet catches carb linkages and the overhanging plate between carb rubbers & throttle return spring plate the breather bar and even some new fuel line clips (the spring type not jubilee),bonnet locating hooks are all on order. What else would have been cadmium plated originaly
I think the fan guard would have been and the brake servo.......... anything else.

I may even ditch the chrome rocker cover in favour of a powder coated one & keep the chrome oil filler cap. What was the colour of the rocker cover originaly.

although this looks pretty cool i don't think all the bling is for me:

My fan guard was cadmium coated as well as brake proportioning valve (and brake booster). Mine is worn off from polishing/cleaning with metal polish. Valve cover was/is argent silver (California?) although I think some were blue (federal?) All colours in mine are original including robin's egg blue on jubilee clips of intake tubes to match oil filter cover. Other parts like bonnets striker, carb parts etc. are bright zinc plated. There are different colours for different cars (I think my Yellow TCT fan cover is black.)

Give me the second picture every time. Chrome does not impress me. Just implies a fat wallet and lack of imagination. I guess that's subcontiously reflected in my cars below.

thats the one at coleford, and yes i sure am going this year!!!

in fact its lucky my morris minor project got trashed as thats how i inadvertantly ended up with my 7, was hotrodding it, had the rover v8 and all the bits ready when it got trashed, then got a peugeot 205 convertible, lovely car but parts were stupid prices, and then i saw the tr7 going cheap local in swansea, had looked at one camarthen way a few months earlier and despite nearly every panel needeing repair he still wanted stupid money for it, hence my project came to me after making me £300 poorer, now to for the re birth.....and i like clean engine bays, though to look at my car presently you would not believe it....[:I]

but wait and see...... and the gutting part is i sold the rover v8 just before getting the tr7....[:(]

also love the aeroquip hosing but its so expensive, but had a merlin catalogue with this months practical classics and in there they sell the stailess finish in as a sleeve to slip over your original pipes, no idea what it will look like but intend finding out,.....
