Donor engine and box going cheap

Postby Shauniedawn » 31 Jan 2010 22:01

Hiya.

Have you seen this?

You might get the odd part - but it would have to be on your doorstep to make it worthwhile - even at a fiver. Flood damage? Was it in a pond for a while do you think?

Looks like it was in a pond for quite a while ...

shurly that can't be any good?

I would imagine it would cost more to restore than to buy a decent second hand one.

it looks crappy from the outside...

it wouldn't be my first choice for second engine..
but if the engine can be turned over and the oil is still inside why not , crank might be good, gearbox internals, anything that was in contact with oil could be salvageable.

the biggest problem i think would be corroded bolts and nuts, but you cant complain for 5 pounds, i think the guy would get more at a salvage yard for scrap iron and aluminum [:D][:D][:D]

Just imagine the fun and games you'd have getting the head off that! [:D]
I doubt there will be anything useful on that! I've done a bit of work on marine salvage engines over the years and the biggest problem is when they are brought back to the surface they start oxidising as soon as they're exposed to air.
We would throw them back in the lake or a tank of fresh water until we were ready to work on them. I've seen engines resurrected, that have been under water so long that they're encrusted with barnacles!
