[V] havin discovered the work needed to finish off the fhc i e new feul tank an welding an the dreaded wiring decided the only alternative was to get a solid dhc [:D] an use the fhc as a doner car so the new wheels seats carpets mirrors an all the other bits thats cost me about £800 wont go to waste me me luck ill need it[B)]

If that's all you need to spend that's seems to be a bargain! Part of the ownership of having these cars is understanding the quirks and shortcomings of these cars. I myself feel there is no better way of getting to know your very own car by doing the work yourself, and with these cars you better get get used to it. I wouldn't give up on it it too soon. You might just inherit another nightmare! I wish you luck man![;)]

it depends on your approach, do it at a nice eacy pace and while initially getting the car roadworthy dont go overboard, mine needs a new interior, and hood but i've so far concentrated on the welding and getting the car mot'd, the rest will come in time, buy too much in one go and keep count and you will see the drawback of classic ownership in that you very rarely will be able to get back in value of the finished vehicle what you have spent to do it up.

unless the cars original seats were totally shot then replacements were not really a priority, twenty quid would see you sat on half decent seat covers and money saved there could get the welding done for the mot etc.

pace yourself and prioritize structural mot able work before the pretty stuff, will cost less initially and will get to the same result just maybe a little slower....

just look at mine...lol, it might see paint this year but mines been in my hands just over a year, but so far the work has been welding and new subrame and brakes etc...... but its getting there.......

S&S are good chaps but is it just me or can anyone else hear alarm bells ringing here? Wouldn't it be cheaper (and easier) to spend a bit extra and get something that doeasn't need welding, not to mention of course a 12 month MOT?

Yup...but there's horses for courses. If you enjoy doing the work there is a feeling of satisfaction of bringing back fron the dead or at least curing the sick that you don't get from buying a trailer queen,[:)]

I see both sides and both have merit.

For sure, but unless I've misunderstood.. if he wanted to fix a car up then he could have fixed the first one...

I thought he was looking for another car because he didn't want to, in which case why is he looking at another car needing work?

Just sayin' That's all..
