Can't tell for sure from the picture, but on mine, there's a loop that seems to be placed to help pull the top tight enough to fit that first snap just behind the door opening.

My original hood doesn't have these loops fitted. Are there no instructions with your new hood? Or contact the manufacturer & ask their advise.
Also, rule 1, when stripping & rebuilding a car is label everything you take off & don't throw anything away until you've fitted and are happy with the new bits! I'm currently restoring the underside of my TR8 & I've got loads of bags & boxes of old rubbish which I'm keeping for reference against any future new parts.
Good luck fitting the hood , I've never done one myself so can't offer any advice.

My mohair hood has these loops. I originally thought they went around the frame but did not see how to fit them or how they would work in folding. The idea of using them to pull for fastening sounds interesting. I also have the loops over the doors still dangling (its only been 3 years) as I can't remember which way they went around the frame to fix them.

This is how such 'loops' are used on my hood:

If they fitted are correctly in my case, it would seem that they increase the rigidity of the hood and may actually be a 'simple' (poor) deterent to the person that unpops the hood to open the car - the hood loop is 'jammed' by the door. Note that, in my experience, the hood stays in place whilst driving even if the front popper is unclipped.

If you fit the frame through them the hood doesnt fold properly and sits funny when its up, been there, made that mistake. I also think that they are there to help you pull the hood tight.
