Legality of using Rimmer catalogue pictures?

Postby macmattom » 11 Apr 2009 10:07

I have just posted a question about certain components on the front subframe, and because I'm not sure of the legallity of using the pictorals from the Rimmers catalogue I tried to explain my dilema as best I could (I must have been successful because I got some great replies).

My question is, is it okay to copy the pictures from the Rimmers catalogue and use them in a thread or are the pictures copyrighted in any way? I'd hate to end up getting sued, or worse, getting a forum closed down so would appreciate some advice.

Thanks very much,

Mac

There is a paragraph at the bottom RH corner of the Rimmers catologue on the 1st page that says that the pics are indeed copyrighted and are not to be repproduced without written permission.

The actual expoded diagrams aren't Rimmers own diagrams they are the original Triumph Parts Catalogue diagrams that Rimmers are using under license.

I believe as long as you don't make profit from the item and you disclose where the item is from .You are OK.
If I am wrong ?? Sue me .I need a little more excitement in my life.

I had to get permission to use the cutaway image of the drophead for use in the DVD and also every other picture where the copyright has ended up in the hands of BMIHT. But they were very good about it... because I spent so much money with them they let me use the cutaway without charge.

If it's in this forum, why not just post the link to the diagram like this?

It only takes a second to open up in another window.

Good point Adam. They surely couldn't object to a link back to thier website. I believe most everything is on the site that's in the catalog.
