What size tires are you running?

Hey guys, I didn't mean to start a panic. Yea, the tires I want are getting a bit more difficult to find, especially locally, but I believe that they will always be available.
Look at the cars that were built in the 20's - they get restored and tires are available for them. We'll always be able to get street tires for our cars in the proper size(s), we might just have to pay a bit more and search a little harder.
The tires I bought have a 50,000 mile warranty. With the amount of driving I will probably do, I'll probably never have to buy tires for it again.

Bridgestone RE72 205/50/15's. Great tyres, but way too easy to spin up with the 4.6. Not easy to solve that one though without going for very sticky (read soft & short lived!) & much wider tyres (which wouldn't fit on the wheel or under the rear arches!).

I'd think that there should be reasonable 15's around for sometime yet given the number of older cars on the road. Wouldn't like to be looking for decent 13's though.

Mine will be riding on Sumitomo HTR T4 175/70R13. These are the same tires I am using on my Spitfire and I really like them; good grip and very good in the rain.

When I was searching for tires for my Spitfire 2 yrs ago I found lots of tires available in the 175/70R13 size, from economy tires to more performance oriented.

In the book 'TR7 The Untold Story' an American Leyland salesman mentions how the British failed to appreciate how much of an impact wheels make on the look of the car. He & his oompatriots fought for bigger rims but BL persisted with the 13" rims & you can understand their fustration. The car obviously has room for the bigger wheels & they look 100% better. The TR6 had 15" rims so why did BL go backwards on this? Well, same reason they made all the other mistakes I suppose.

From my point of view the wheels have to fill the arches so keep your 13" steel rims for the car shows but if you want to make the car look good get 15" mags & stick 205/50 tyres on them so you can take corners at the legal speed.

Aaron, I've had Mastercraft tires on daily drivers and they were a good tire. Good to hear you are ready for the road.

Yes, wheels & tires make a huge visual difference on any car. I'd have 15s if I could afford another set of rims & tires. The 14" Panasports will have to do for now. They're paid for![:D]

I've had the Falcon tyres on the 8 for a few hundred Km now. I have
not pushed the thing around a corner yet, so can't comment on the
handling, but the ride is totally different.

The goodrich 185 55 R15s on the front were very harsh. I had
adjusted the front shocks down to near their softest settings, as
the car was impacting the rough roads around here, harder than I was
happy with. One disadvantage of stiff springs, & shocks, on a car
used for mostly road work.

The Falcon 185 60 R15s must have much softer side walls. The car was
riding very much softer, with no hard impacts, even on the worst
bumps. This is with the same 35PSI tyre pressures. I was however,
occasionally getting a scrape from the front spioler on the road,
when I got a wave or pothole in the road, in the middle of a corner.

I have hardened the front shocks up, by 3 clicks, [about 25%], which
is still giving a much better ride than the Goodrich tyres, without
the spoiler scraping. This is only one up, so I may have to go
harder in the shocks with a passenger in the car.
