Front spoiler

I aquired a front spoiler for my '79 7. It has some creases and a few small holes from scrapes. It is probably installable but I thought I would try to repair it. Has anyone had any luck with taking creases out with heat? Any successful hole repairs?

Back in the early 90ies I had one on my 30th Ann. TR7 that was just as you described. When I got the car repainted I had them repair and spray the spoiler in a satin/semi-gloss. I don't know if the just filled in the holes or if they plastic welded/heated it up and fused the splits back together but what ever they did was nice. In this day any body shop should be able to clean that spoiler up. If not there is a fiberglass reproduction that looks fine too. They just do not have the texture of the original and are real shiny.

I've used an infared heat lamp to reform urethane bumper covers with success. Don't see why it wouldn't work for the spoiler. Just be carefull cause as I remember what was left of mine, the plastic isn't too thick. Check with your local auto body/ parts store for adhesive. Fusor makes a complete line of exellent adhesives that will glue darn near anything.

I have the fiberglass repo Michael refers to. It fits pretty well after a little grinding and fitting. I painted it with flat black epoxy the same as the lower sills and it looks pretty stock at first glance. It would be less forgiving if run into a curb though.

Last I saw of mine was when it went flying out from under my car on the highway and a big semi ran over it! Made a horrible noise as it worked it's way under the car at 70mph!

I guess jclay doesn't have a real high opinion the spoiler. I'm not in love with it either. But I saw this purchase as cheap way to hide the bent front lower panel. I successfully straightened, in a fashion, but I thought it might look better covered up. Looking at the car from the front view, it definitly looks like something is missing without the spoiler and my bent lower panel looks ratty.

You can also buy new original type spoilers from the usual suppliers (Rimmers, The Roadster Factory, S&S Prep. and VB).

Last I have seen Victoria British fiberglass reproduction, Roadster NLA original and for Rimmer and S&S will be second hand at best originals or a reporduction of some form and by the time you get one shipped over to the US your looking at about a minimum of $200.00 and who knows if the second hand will be any better than what you have. I have the original and got two of the BL Rally spoilers sent over. To save on shipping I had them cut in half. It still was about $120.00 USD in shipping and $100.00 USD for each spoiler with rally fender flares. Not a cheap day at all.

That's about how I figured it. I have about $80 into this used one. And if I can make it look decent I should be way ahead.

Here in Miami Florida there is a shop that specializes in fixing spoilers rear and front. I took mine there,fixed it for $80 took two days
Ready to paint.

You must have not check lately, but The British Hertiage started reproducing original type spoilers several years ago on the original tooling.

they are being sold in the US. Can't remember which supplier mention it when they started reproducing them.

Money is not the object if you really want something.

Thanks for the information. I think the only one that might be selling them which in thier catalog/flyer was moss motors but they kept showing a Spitfire, so I was passing it off as an error. I know about wanting! I have about 1/2 the money invested in parts plus a TR8 being converted to a works replica. Could have saved up the other half and bought the real thing!
