I'm posting this in the wrong forum I guess - but it'll get noticed here, so thats my excuse! [:D]
As many of you know, I'm no longer on the TR scene. I've been bitten by bikes some time back and currently suffering a severe addiction to 2 wheeled fun! I'll maybe post up some pics soon of the fleet! (5 bikes in the past 2 years!)...
Anyway, the purpose of my post.
I set up the WaringstownTR7 site many years ago with Kyle (TRminator) and shortly thereafter, we teamed up with Jay and TriumphTR7.com to try and push more web traffic to this forum. Thats why our site and Kyles car feature on the forum logo. A while after that, I built the member blogs on the WTR7 hosting account. They saw a bit of a flurry of use for a few years, but have quietened down considerably this past year.
Earlier in 2008, I closed the WTR7 website - redirecting it to TriumphTR7.com in the meantime. The site wasnt being kept up to date, and not being into TR's anymore, I was starting the wind down. The technical articles I wrote have all been kept and given to Jay. Over time, they'll be absorbed into the main TriumphTR7.com site. I wouldn't want them getting lost from your community.
At the end of January 2009, the WTR7 web hosting account is up for renewal. I only used it for the TR site so cant justify spending out the yearly bill to just host the blogs. The blogs will therefore close on Jan 27th 2009.
I've chatted via email with Jay and made the following suggestion that I have seen work on other forums. I also note that some of you on here have done this anyway!
I personally think your "Members Blogs" forum should be the place where your actual blogs exist. Posts made on there could be only replied to by the original author. It therefore becomes your thread - your blog thread. Maybe you'd like to have others post to your blog thread? Thats no longer my place to debate. This concept means that the blogs exist where they should be - in the middle of your TriumphTR7.com community and not in a separate site/URL.
The other option would have been for me to backup the existing blogs and get them imported into Jay's hosting - but unfortunately, his account can't handle MySQL/PHP. Maybe in the longer term, as Snitz gets decomissioned, the options will change?...
So - thats it from me. I'm still clinging on here as a mod until Jay gets me deleted off!!! - so I am opening this one up to you and running off! I would say that maybe someone should save some of the posts from the existing blog before it closes?.... For example, I documented the removal and replacement of the famous fuel tank job - complete with pics. Maybe someone would like to grab that & build up an artcle for Jay and the main site?...
I've also PM'd Simon although I havent heard back. I am very very aware that Ally's blog entries are on there. I dont want Simon losing those words and memories and have suggested that he saves them to his PC ASAP. Maybe if some of you have Simons's email or contact details - you could get in touch with him for me. I'll keep a backup myself just in case.
