Spax Kits

Postby Wayne S » 29 Nov 2008 19:09

As anyone fitted Spax adjustable to their wedge? If so, what on earth are those black plastic discs /washers intended for? In my kit I got a new aluminium retaining collar, and adjustment key, 2 damper inserts and 2 of these black plastic discs / washers / collars with the spax logo on. Any ideas? What did you use them for?

With the Koni shocks there where plastic washers that had to be put on top of the retaining nuts.
No expert on (and fan of) Spax [:I]

Wayne,

I asked the same question sometime ago, but didn't get an answer. I used them as "bump spacers", but I can't imagene that they would do much...

Wayne,
I have plastic washers on my Koni shocks, they go inside the the upper portion of the shock along with a bump stop. I think this is to stop the adjusting pegs in the two sections connecting together whilst on the car. They are only adjustable of the car by removing the plastic washer, closing the shock tight and twisting the upper & lower sections together. Maybe yours are similar?

grndsm's picture shows the black washer im talking about. Spax adjust with the key on a hexagon on the top of the spindle so cant see how it can be related to adjustment. Odd thing is that theres no mention of it in the Spax instructions at all....

If you look on the Spax website (www.spax.co.uk) there are a full range of owners handbooks to download. If yours are top adjustable gas struts then the black plastic washer is described as a "black plastic bump stop protector" and should be placed on the strut tube underneath the bump stop.

Thanks Andy,

That makes perfect sense! The new keeper nut has sharp(ish) corners and can cut up the bump stop if you do not use such "protector".
