Forms of Payment....

Postby Rblackadar » 27 Oct 2008 16:10

Alright ladies and gentlemen, I need to pay for a part but the company is in Canada (I'm in the US). I asked them about payment and they said check would be fine. So would that mean a personal check from my bank here in the US be acceptable? He gave me the amount in Us dollars so there's no conversion issue, I just want to make sure they can cash it. As usual....any info or advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Usually when a company says cheque they accept personal cheque's, I would think that a credit card would be the easiest though. Especially when dealing across countries.

Can't save them all but I am trying!!!

The thing about a personal cheque is it would have to clear before they sent you the goods which would be longer than you would normally have to wait. A cashiers cheque is as good as cash so would speed up the transaction. A money order would be another way to go.

Further to that, if you do send him a money order, make it a US Post Office International money order. He can deposit those in his bank just like a cheque and they are guaranteed.
He may also have a bank account that allows US cheques to be deposited. Many Canadians and Canadian companies maintain a US dollar bank account separate from their normal account and in that case a US cheque would not be a problem.
If he intends to hold the product until the cheque clears you would be better off to go with a money order.

Good luck!

Hahahaha isn't it funny that all the Canadians answered [:D] Mainly because that's all we do is shop across the border[:(] There's just more selection down in the States.[8D]
