14's

Postby nadg63 » 16 Sep 2008 03:29

Were 14" wheels ever standard fitment on TR7/8's during their production run?

Just wondering as if not I have to buy another set of wheels, 15", to replace my 16's to make it eligible for classic rally usage.

Only shipped with 13" wheels. Even John Buffum back in the day used 13" wheels for his BL suported rally car. The Bob Tullius road race car (SCCA/IMSA) used 15" and later 16" wheels but the car was highly modified.

Suppose I had better start looking out for some 15's then! (and keep the 16's for road usage)

Noticed some Superlite wheels are sold locally, (Minilite rep's), so will look into them, either 15x7 all round or possibly 15x8 on the back!?

Mine has 15" 2-tone Superlites. They look very nice I'm told.

I believe the Aussie TR7 Pro series cars may have been fitted with 14 inch rims.

The was an Aussie BL event that engaged some of the best local touring car drivers (Bond, Richards, etc) to race the wedge in a controlled series as a support act to local touring cars. Barclays sponsored a series.

The local BL dealers then contributed to upgrading the local release to the TR7 Pro:

14" Panasports here but purchaced in 1995. The Superlights are becoming more popular over here due to price. Much more tire selection with the 15s today.

The Lampinen/Gallagher works car did use 15x6" wheels in 1979 RAC rally.
Don't know if they were used on other cars/events.

Wow. I'd love to see some video of the Aussie TR7 Pro series.
