Just one of those days

So I've been tinkering in the garage on the seven, she now starts up right away, alternator charges, headlights go up and down, little things here and there. You know the kind of stuff that makes you feel like your making head way.

Well I've noticed an oil leak under the car but have been unable to pinpoint it. Today I backed it down the driveway, and I do mean "down". I have a steep driveway into my garage, and wouldn't you know it, a trail of oil and not drip drip drip I mean it looks like someone poured oil down the driveway. Checked the oil pan and it's clean, looks like it's dripping between transmission and engine. Rear main seal dammit!! Lousy thing is I have a scissor lift in the garage and that will be no help in removing the transmission, so I'll have to do it on my level driveway. I've gotten so used to working on hoists I hate working on the ground.

My hat's off to all you guys that do your repairs on your back, knees, handstands etc..... The dedication it takes to do that.... well done[:D]

I just had to rant a little, the wife doesn't understand when I talk cars with her, I get no sympathy[:p]

Can't save them all but I am trying!!!

Sure it's the rear engine seal? May be the gearbox front seal - or the clutch slave cylinder ?

It's not dedication, it's neccessity. If I had my druthers I'd have a compressed air lift with trans/engine air jack I saw at a club members garage during a pig roast. His garage was bigger than my house.

No sympathy from my wife either. Must be in female DNA.[:)]

Yoke, mine goes even further, she "can't understand how you can
spend so much money on that old thing". Thats the 7, my daily
driver, so you can imagine what she thinks of the 8.

I have pointed out that her cars have cost A$29,000 in six years in
depreciation, & servicing, against A$12,000 in purchase,
depreciation, restoration & servicing of my 7, in the same time.

It appears that "that's different" somehow.

I am getting some red oil in the drip tray under the car, when its
in the shed. It took 180 ml of ATF to top the gear box up the other
day. Perhaps my costs are going to get more like hers now. I have
done 3 R&R gearbox on 7s, all in the shed, on 14" ramps. I am just
too damn old to do it again, so this time it's going to cost.

I hope you have a cradle to hold the box on your floor jack, if you
drop it out the bottom. They are too heavy to manoeuver on your
chest, under there, & don't balance well on the jack.
