This car was at the Sherborne Classic Show last Sunday, for sale by the trader. I had a good look at it, not 'cos I am thinking of buying it but just curious.

The car appears very solid in all the important places. Couldn't find any rust to worry about - a few very minor cosmetic bits only. Couldn't really see underneath but the trader told me it was solid underneath & had just passed MOT without any problems. I can't remember the full chassis number but it began ACG 26??? which dates the manufacture from around June/Aug 1977.

Interior appears all original & is in very good condition although carpets a bit faded & vinyl is lifting on the rear shelf. The roof mounted interior light was loose when I saw it. The sunroof looks to be an aftermarket item, not factory, but was in good condition & has a useful looking wind deflector.

Paintwork is good although it has definately had at least a partial respray, you can see the odd bit of overspray on the door rubbers. Inside the engine bay & boot was all solid. The sills & back panel are still black as per factory finish, & I couldn't see any signs of respray in those areas which is good.

It has an electric fan fitted, & a non standard radiator expansion bottle, a rather strange looking round plastic item, not the correct part. Otherwise it appears mechanically standard. 4 speed box.

It has the later alloys. There is no mat in the boot. I saw the V5 which confirmed two POs.

To sum up, it does appear to be a tidy, clean early car, in pretty good solid condition. I would hesitate to say "outstanding" as claimed in the ad, but it is not a bad example at all.At the show it was advertised for £2450, which is way too much IMHO.

Thanks Tony, couldn't ask for better than that. The trader has it on Pistonheads at £2450, currently at £800 on the dreaded Ebay, only problem is the 300 mile distance from me, not to mention the concours MK2 RS2000 in my garage that I need to move on to buy the TR7.

Cheers, Paul

Thought it was on before but I missed what it ended at. In reality I need to move my RS on at the clubs National Day in 3 weeks at Donnington, will start advertising it then anyway, I am RSOC club registrar for the MK2's so I guess I will have to relinquish that role also. Escort prices have gone silly of late and having retired I can't justify having the money tied up in the car for occasional use. If I get my price I will look to spend up to £3500 or slightly more on an early fixed head car.Hope you don't object to a few pics of my Escort.

cheers, Paul

Very nice RS - you should have no problems selling that! Is it standing in your front room, or is that your garage?[:D]

And for £3500 you should expect to get a very, very, very good early TR7 FHC - better than the one you started this thread about.

Good grief - you're going to sell that - for a TR 7 ??? Much as I like my TR 7 - I have to say, you won't find one in anything like the condition of your Escort!! Have you driven a Fixed Head TR 7 ?

Yes mate, used to have a Triton green W plate fixed head, had my first run in a Java green TR7 in about 76 sitting on my dads knee in the passenger seat, still have the brochure from the showroom to this day. Drifted into Escorts and have had about a dozen RS2000's and always seem to restore them to concours then move on to another. Can't get TR7's out of my system though so I think its time I did the right thing and bought another, will probably end up doing a full resto on one of them as well [:D]

cheers, Paul

Welll - you seem to know what's what. Personally - I think the DHC is a far better looking car, and nice when the sun shines !
