DHC roll bars

Postby Jimanderton » 10 Jul 2008 00:12

Good day Wedgers:

Anybody try a DIY install of a roll bar? I finally got my "hangar queen" TR-8 running, but my wife seems to think that it lacks a little safety-wise, at least upside down. I'm not afraid to do a little bending/cutting/welding (used to build the odd race car) but bolt-in sounds easier. Any tips? Thx....

I always think the car looks better, more balanced, if you like with a roll bar. Good luck with fitting.

My DHC has an Aley bar - one of the reasons I bought the car. It helps stiffen up the back end - but it does get in the way of the hood frame slightly. I hope I never need it!

Hi,
As bmcecosse said, i am certain it stiffens the shell so 2 benefits to fitting one. Mines an S+S alloy one straight forward to fit.
Cheers John.

I bought one of these off fleabay, and fitted it during the restoration. I got the body shop guys to make and weld some plates to join it to the hoop structure at the rear of the doors. Also welded stiffeners to the floor. It does make quite a difference, but whilst is clears the hood OK, zipping the window up and folding the side panels from the hood are more difficult. You need to get the hood bag modified too. Robsport did mine.
