When this happened to me it turned out the power wire to the thermo switch was dead. I ran a new wire from the battery with a fuse rather than tear the dash apart looking for the origin of the original wire. As a result the fan works after the car has been turned off but I don't see this as being a negative.
So, check the thermo. You should be able to hear it click when you turn the adjustment knob. If it clicks it works. Next, adjust the thermo so it is on at garage temp, get a volt meter & check there is 12v getting to the thermo & to the fan. If the thermo has no power do what I did. If the fan has no power you probably have a busted relay.
Or, take it to an auto electrician & they will probably have it fixed within an hour & you can have your weekend back.
