Looks like its going to be wet for the coming weekend trip to Classic Le Mans, Thinks I should put a new pair of wiper blades on.

I seem to remember somebody posting recently that they were two different sizes but I cant find where

Can someone please confirm my thoughts.

Cheers
Ian

Ian, I believe it is 16 inch on the driver's side and 18 inch on the passenger side, although I think I have 17 inch on both...

TR7 wiper blades are correctly (UKRHD) 16 inch NS and 18 inch OS [pantograph arm). I believe that current suppliers hand out only similar blades of the same 16 inch size which is incorrect. The pin connection to the blade itself is fused (not removable), but most aftermarket blades now rely on removable pins. This can cause a problem on the TR7 since any play in the pin can cause the pantograph arm blade to come detached from its housing, thereby scratching the screen!

If you can, get hold of an original set of blades since it is still possible to replace the rubber elements using accessory shop rubber refills that are cut exactly to size. Indistinguishable from original equipment. Bit fiddly to fit but why replace the whole blade with an incorrect part?

Too right Mike! Chris Turner published the original wiper availability in the club magazine a couple of months back. I plan to follow his advice and fit a pair of originals as none of these aftermarket jobbies wipe the screen as well.

I replaced mine with rubber refills. When I used them first time this year an end cap flew off causing blade to walk out. I epoxied the end for now but if the end cap doesn't snap on good I would epoxy it on for good measure. For replacement you can always cut them off. I use brand name wipers (like Trico) bthey are less likely to squeak which is a common problem with the Tercel.

you could allways forgo the wipers completely and "rain-x" the windsheild.....

We sell "aqua-pel" windsheild treatment here at my work, for the low,low price of 29.95$ installed, and on a regular car it should last the season easily.....my TR was rain-xed over three years ago and it still worked well the last time I was out in the wet stuff(which i really try to avoid as much as possible ;))

A club member uses Rain-X on his TR6 because his wipers don't work. I tried it on my Integra years ago but didn't like the way the wipers cleared the rain with it so let it wear off.

I agree - Rain-x always seems to me to give a 'smear' - so I use it on the rear screen of my people carrier but NOT on the front screen.
