Sports Car Market: TR7 as affordable classic

Postby ACW30445 » 28 May 2008 16:42

[:D]

"Triumph, which had followed an evolutionary approach to the development of its TR series of sports cars, took the bait and broke completely with tradition in designing the TR7."

I also own a '69 AMC Javelin 343/automatic car. It was covered a few months later in 2007. [:D]

Finally some 'premier' recoginition for two very underrated and underappreciated cars....and since I own one of both....I am not going to get too carried away but definitely am wearing a grin.

"Mechanically, the Javelin is closer to a catapult than a javelin—heavy duty and pretty much unbreakable"

I also own or owned both. Needless to say I lorded it over my Mopar and Ford roomates when Mark Donohue won at Edmonton Raceways in 1971 not to mention the series.

Interestingly the TR7(V8) won the same series in 1980 also being totally dominant.

I didn't have a Javelin.

I had one of the first "AMX"s that hit Houston! White with red interior! I only had the 360 engine but I hit 150 going through Wyoming one night! Through off all the balancing weights from the wheels!

Notice the mags negative comment about the Marlin. I liked the Marlin, in fact I liked the Pacer and the Gremlin. They were different not boring like GM's and Chrysler's offerings, the '69 Mustang fastback was perfect but then it got fat. I liked Studebakers stylings (over here likened to european influenced.) I found MGBs and Midgets boring (although their MGTC and MGAs were classic.) Triumph cars were interesting, liked the VW bug (had two at same time) but found Mercedes boring except for 300SL gullwing. I guess it had to be different to catch my eye.
