What discs?

Does anyone know what discs are used in the Rimmers No2 brake upgrade kit?

I need to replace my discs, and although Rimmers offer the discs as a service replacement part, I just wondered if I could get them any cheaper by shopping around. If anyone can identify them I would be grateful.

Hi Tony,
Do you mean the vented kit that uses SD1 vittesse calipers [?] Then Toyota Supra discs are what you req. I found someone selling them on Fleabay and put a post on here somewhare. Chunk (Phil) read and tried Supra discs when replaced his,his post is on this link with picture (although he uses Princees calipers due to the SD1 ones leaking)

The No.3 kit uses the SD1 Vitesse calipers and Toyota discs.
As far as I know, the No.2 kit uses Ford Capri 2.8i discs.
I think this is what S&S use in there kit aswell.

John, Phil, thank you very much.

Thanks also for the link to the thread, I remember the discussion now about the Supra discs being used in the No3 kit. Mine is not the No3 kit so I think Phil has the answer with the Capri discs. Should be able to pick those up at a reasonable price.

I note that Rimmers now don't sell the No1 & No2 kits, just the No3 kit. They still do service parts for 1&2.

Hey Phil, reading that thread from a few weeks ago again, you have used the Supra discs with the Princess 4 pot calipers? My kit has AP 4 pot calipers with spacers for the vented Capri discs - you can guess the next question can't you! Are the Princess calipers the same as the AP 4 pots? Could I use the Supra discs with the AP 4 pots under 14" wheels? Or is the adaptor for the hub different?

Hi I have princess four pot calipers on my v8 with capri dics,I replaced these last year with Rossini drilled and grooved discs but had to get them bored out to fit, certainly make a difference.
I think that Rimmers are stocking the rossini discs now.

Hi Tony,
The two adaptors are probably the same thickness, but would be different on the mounting face for the disc. So you would have to use Capri discs. I think the only difference between the two discs is the diameter, the Capri is 245mm and the Toyota is 255mm.
But if you use uprated discs and uprated pads, your brakes will be fine for fast road use.

You are right of course, Phil, why make life difficult for myself? (That's a question I often ask myself[:)])

The car only gets normal road use & the set up with the AP 4 pots stops it really well.

There are lots of sources for the Capri discs so I shall hunt around for the best deal. Do you think the groved/slotted/drilled type discs that I see advertised offer any advantage over the normal plain ones in ordinary road use?

Hi Tony,
The normal, or standard discs will be fine for normal road use when used with standard pads, or even EBC Green Stuff pads.
The grooved discs are for use with hard pads (high temperature) like EBC Red Stuff, or Ferodo DS2000. These pads tend to "glaze up" (polished) round town and the grooves "de-glaze" them.
The drilled discs offer extra cooling for high speed work.
A normal vented disc will be fine for normal road work.

I went to a local Ford dealer today just to enquire if OE Ford Capri 2.8 discs were still available & if so then how much?

Very helpful guy behind the counter made some phone calls & yes you can still get the OE parts from Ford. £128 each!!![:0]

Needless to say I declined to order. He rang me back later with an offer of pattern discs at £80 for the pair inc VAT. Bit more like it.
