Collapsible Spacer (Crush tube) on pinion shaft

I'm changing the gear ratio in my 1980 Tr7 DHC from 3.9 to 3.08, and I'm having trouble sourcing the crush tube that goes on the pinion shaft between the inner and outer bearings. Does anyone know where these can be purchased? If not, has anyone tried flattening the raised portion of an old one using a bar, and reused it?

Never re-use them, as they won't give the correct tension on the bearing.

They're like hens teeth! I've heard of one source who claims to have a couple but he is no longer trading. Triumph specialists I have spoken to resort to 'reprofiling', but admit to having to make several attempts to get an acceptable result - and yes, the only way to check the result is to refit the rebuilt axle and drive the car!
Beans, do you know of a source?

Sadly not. My experience is that traders often wont sell you the parts because they can "earn" more money if they rebuilt the axle for you [:(]

Wonder what the guys at S&S or Robsport etc do with diff rebuilds? Do they have old stock, or have them remanufactured, or reuse the originals somehow? Anyone able to comment?

Hi,
Would'nt be hard to remanufacture i would'nt think [?] by far the biggest problem would be finding out what type of steel used as this has a effect on its crushabilty. 'Back in the day' we had loads of these kicking around at work, like lots of things wish i had kept some new ones 'in stock' for future use.
