DIPSTICK ADVICE

hi yes yet another question but as always i am greatful for the help and advice given. I was jusy wondering if anyone could tell me what the correct name for the black covering the covers the dipstick? and are they expensive to get hold off?

Hi Steve,
Do you mean the flexible rubber pipe? (dipstick tube). These are available from all the leading suppliers Robsport ect (about £5). Last one i brought had to be trimmed to lenght so dont destroy the old one before measuring.If already in bits someone on here will know how long.

Thanks John yes thats what i meant the flxible rubber pipe ( dipstick tube) is there anyone out there who knows the full lenght of the tube, as mine has just about had it and mosst of which has perished.

Thanks Jclay by going by what i have read the dipstick measuremnets appera to be 17" long so i hoe im right bout that, does anyone know if Rimmers sell them at all, only if off to Liconcoln in a few days time and thought i could kill 2 birds with one stone sort of speak.

talking about dipsticks was going to fit k and n filters wot does the dipstick tube re atatch its self to once the airbox has gone. thanks,

Mine uses the rear nut on the rear air filter to attach to: Works ok.

I believe another option is to use a dolomite dipstick (without the tube).

Ahh - now that (Dolly stick) sounds like a really good idea! Because my flexi tube is well rotted - and there is no easy way of knowing if the level it's showing is correct or not!

A very long time ago there was a thread on this. There are different lengths depending upon carb types, efi and model year for all options.

Buy a length of the tube that is too long, drain your systrem thoroughly including replacing the filts and then add the exact amount of oil as per the manual. Start trimming the new pipe down until the dip stick, when placed in the tube. measures full. You will then have the correct length.

For the rubber tube just go see a hydraulic hose place or a very good auto parts store.

Ol' Yeller had a short dipstick, so I though they all did, but my other three had the long dipstick. I am using clear vinyl tubing and I hook the curve of the dipstick handle on the battery hold down bar.
