The trouble is if it's a dull dark morning it will be just like a delayed sunrise.
Pretty much the whole of Scotland and Northern England will be a decent vantage point if the sun is up.

I went to Devon 1n 1999 in my red convertible. It was total down there in Lyme Regis, But in Bristol it was only partial, In the north west of Scotland it will be about 97%-98%. If i can get a shot with the TR in the photo that will take some beating,Of course if its raining i won't be going, But if theres a chance even a small one i'm going. I'll be able to say "I know cos i was there". Anyway afterwards will go for a drive.[8D][:)]

So did anyone go? I saw a total eclipse in Oregon about 35 years ago. It was awesome; the clouds parted just in time.

I remember my first eclipse. I was somewhere around 14 to 16 on our farm in Manitoba out in the fields, mowing some clover. It was about mid-day, the as sun was high in the sky, not a cloud in the sky and hot. As the eclipse happened it got darker and noticeably cooled down. As good an experience as it gets for that sort of thing. We also got the biggest, best blood orange moons, reddest sunsets. All that dry dusty air. We also had the coldest, longest winters with the flattest landscape. Glad I'm outta there.[:p]

We had a perfect view of the eclipse here in Cornwall and saw it all the way through. Handy having Coronado Binomite solar binoculars too.

Tonight through our 8 inch telescope we've just been watching Io transit the face of Jupiter with its shadow cast on the gaseous surface just behind it. Quite amazing.
