2014 Portland ABFM

Postby Spectatohead » 23 Feb 2014 20:55

I know it's early but Triumph is the featured marque at this year's All British Field Meet. I would be nice to have a bunch of wedges. I'll be there as usual. Labor Day weekend at Portland International Raceway. August 29, 30, and 31.

I'm also going to try to make it to the NW All Triumph Drive In. The Tyee Triumph Club (Seattle) is celebrating their 50th anniversary. I've seen the LeMay museum on shows on Velocity but would really like to go see it in the flesh so to speak. http://www.tyeetriumph.org/ATDI/2014ATDI.aspx

The trouble with ATDI is it's only a couple of weeks before ABFM. Crossing the border that often, might think I'm running Mary Juana.....oh, wait it'll be legal by then won't it.[:p]

Not in Oregon it won't be. Legal now in Washington. Yeah, I'm not likely to make it to the ATDI either.

The ATDI is just down the road for me, so I'll make that one this year. The ABFM is always on about the worst weekend of the summer for us to get to. But with our daughter living in Portland now, its possible. I'll know more as we get closer.

That wasn't the border I was worried about.

I plan to be in Portland for the ABFM. Don't know that I'll make the Drive In. We did visit the LeMay Museum inTacoma last month; it's pretty cool. I'm still hoping to get to the VTR meet in NC.

I've got it on my calendar. Of course I've had it on my calendar in the past and didn't make it. However, this year I have two road worthy 7s and would really like to make it happen.

Now I see that the Western Washington All British Field Meet is also featuring Triumph this year, July 26. It is at a new venue this year. I haven't been to it with a Triumph for over 20 years and that would have been my TR6. I'm thinking about just blasting up on Saturday morning for this one, and then home Saturday night. That way it is just fuel for the 366 mile round trip and food.

Just a mile or two from my nephew's house but find it difficult to get away for more than one international trip.

I always considered Vancouver to be a suburb of Seattle.

Lots of Vancouverites would think so to as a lot do cross border shopping in Bellingham. Vancouver Island is a different story with a required 1 1/2 hour wait before ferry to clear precustoms at COHO ferry, 1 1/2 hour ferry ride ($65), customs at other side, not to mention travel times to and after ferry makes for a long day just to have breakfast at McDonalds in Port Angeles (I have to get up at 4 am to do that)[:p]. Taking the BC ferry/Peace Arch route doesn't buy you anything. Been a long time since I've taken the Anacortes ferry route (40+ years) but I suspect it's six of one, half a dozen of the other.
