40th Anniversary Idea/Thoughts

Postby John Wood » 01 Dec 2013 16:48

I notice in the USA they are celebrating the start of TR7 production with a big event in September 2014.

After a brief meeting with Chris Turner at the recent NEC event I mentioned an idea to do something in the UK. My idea is to arrange a road run instead of the usual meet up in a field. My thoughts are:- arrange a meeting early in the morning at the site of the former Speke plant in Liverpool, grab a breakfast then travel (non motorway) to the destination of Solihull (via Canley) in convoy taking in some historic towns on route. In the evening how about a meal at a venue near Longbridge (lickey Hills) with accommodation (if possible) so if anyone wants to stop over and depart on the Sunday morning after breakfast they can.

I am willing to get this off the ground and encouragement and support would be welcome. 2, 3 or 4 people helping with the organisation is easier than one person so I'm putting this out for volunteers as well.

I am putting this out to members of all Triumph Clubs with TR7s or 8s. Surely it must be possible to get 15-20 (more would be nice) cars to mark this occasion? If we can make it a success it could be repeated in May 2016 to coincide with the UK launch. I will happily loan out one of my cars if someones car is unable to make the event but they still want to participate.

The dates I'm considering are Saturday 6th or 13th of September 2014. This is only 10 months away so contact me via this site if your interested. If the response in numbers seems good by Christmas I will arrange a meeting early in the new year to get this off the ground

Contact me via this forum. My contact details are also in the TR Driver magazine. John

John, I will help out. We can have a chat early next year, it would be good to finish with a display if some kind.

On another note I am about to get permission to release the pictures from the TR7 crash testing at my work (Mira Ltd), I will post a couple on the forum but will also put an article together for the tr driver.

I like the idea John but some of us would be getting up very early to be at Speke for breakfast! If the idea progresses can I suggest you factor in the consideration of an overnight stay on the night BEFORE for us Southerners[:)]

Hi John,

Was with you at the NEC when you suggested this and thought at the time what a great idea [8D].

Will certainly like to do this ' Home Coming Tour ' and take mine back to its birth place. Not sure I can do anything, apart from fill my boot with spanners over the weekend !!!! but count me in if I can.

Looking forward to seeing those pictures Paul [8D]

Cheers John

September? A long way off, but I really think the Editor TR-Driver should put in an appearance. If I can help - ask!

John,

there is a chance that I can get my white FHC (when I pick it up from Roy) I can get TR Drivers graphics put on the car for the event, It might be worthwhile looking at a bit of sponsorship from rimmers, rob sport etc to see if we can get any money for a plaque or something.
