Re: MOT Passed!

I seem to remember some one posting that they removed their rubber carb mounting blocks (using gaskets) thinking they didn't need them as the MGB's don't have them (?) as they are thermal blocks (?) and may be just for the most extreme of circumstances. Any one did that or remember that?

Re: MOT Passed!

I'm under the impression that a slightly high idle that can't be adjusted out is due to a small air leak in the intake. This can be worn throttle shaft bushings which have to be drilled out and new ones pressed in. We have a carburetor guy in our car club that does carb repairs for the club members....

Re: Gear stick gaiter 'grommet'

It was a while back but somebody (one of the suppliers) was selling neoprene (or similar) longer lasting ones. Can't remember which now.

Re: DHC Free Road Tax 2021

We have it pretty cushy here (British Columbia, Canada). No inspection, no emissions. Assuming your car is 25 years or older and original, period updates are accepted, exemptions are while radio must look original (internals may be updated), certain safety updates accepted like brakes, TR3 owners us...

Re: Starter

I got mine off eBay. It is a Gustafson starter (adapter plate). The starter itself is a Nippon starter.

Re: Britpart Radiator Hoses

Has anyone fitted new rad hoses and noticed that the new rubber is much thinner than on the items you’re replacing? Probably by 50%. As the tightened hose clips also seem to bite further into the rubber than previous, I fitted the widest I had. Hopefully they’ll last more than a summer. It reminds ...

Carpenter: measure twice, cut once.

Mechanic: Check assembly twice, button it up once.

Re: DHC Free Road Tax 2021

We used to have safety checks a number of years back, then they disappeared except for emissions test, then those disappeared as cars became more reliable and more smog free and the expense seemed more and more unnecessary. Distant memory now.

Re: Ignition questions/problem

My tach is the same way but it quickly comes on. There is a bit of solder cleaner that provides some resistance to needle moving (on the counter balance end of needle when it's at rest). Cleaning this solves the problem. That's the theory. Never actually looked at this and might not be for every sit...

Re: Fuel filler hose

Any time you are looking for hoses be it fuel, coolant etc. do not overlook hoses from other makes and models. I've done this for a number of hoses, on my FI 2 liter Spider. Take the hose in and see if they can match it. In the case of the coolant return hose from heat to block there is a weird circ...

TR7 Headrests - extender

Are you sure they are on the right way? When I got my car one was on backwards as they were different. I was going to get the wife to make up some padded padded covers, but when I replaced the foam in them (they had disintegrated to dust) I reversed the drivers side to match the passenger side and n...

Re: Triumph TR7 Earths, Grounds etc

I like to have the heat shield on starter. When I replaced my starter with gear reduction starter the clips wouldn't fit it so I cheated. I bought a Chevy heat shield from auto parts store, took it home, made a cardboard template from it, took shield back to store for refund. As the Chevy starter is...

Re: Strange squeak

I used an ATV scissor stand (on sale for $40 Cdn), bolted it to the transmission with a piece of scrap metal I made up. I used a set of jackstands that had hydraulic jack integral I bought for $36 Cdn each (from Costco) to get my 21" clearance. The ATV scissor stand was mounted to a T shaped me...

Re: Strange squeak

When I pulled my transmission (out the bottom, you need 21" clearance) the clutch fork had a little wear on it. When looking at the rod that activates it, there is an indent in the face with a rather sharp ridge, perfect for gouging out the fork material and punching through. I rounded off the ...

Re: Just did that regular job today...

I put on a coating of Maguire's Vinyl and Rubber Restorer on all my rubber parts and let it soak for a day or so. Seems to help but that's anecdotal.
